Court: No Limits To Medical Marijuana Amounts (Calif)

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) ― A unanimous California Supreme Court has struck down a law that sought to impose limits on the amount of marijuana a medical patient can legally possess.

The California Supreme Court ruled Thursday that state lawmakers were wrong to change provisions of the voter-approved Proposition 215. The 1996 measure allowed for patients with a doctor's recommendation to possess an unspecified amount of marijuana.

The Legislature, seeking to give law enforcement guidance on when to make marijuana possession arrests, mandated in 2003 that each patient could have a maximum of 8 ounces of dried marijuana.

The high court says only voters can change amendments that they've added to California's constitution through the initiative process.

6. If you only grow outside, depending on where you live-
the season can be very short. If you use it as medication you need to keep enough on hand to last you through the year. If you are a medical grower, like myself, you need to have enough for the clinics and for your patients. Eight ounces is not nearly enough to sustain a living or take care of my people.

This is the one thing this country is moving in the right direction on.

8. Well. itd make sense if you are growing for others
For a single person, seems like 8 ounces would have you set for the year though (though Im sure there are exceptions). Besides, you can churn out 3 to 8 ounces off of two indoor plants in a tiny space every 4 months or so (and quicker if you lollipop and clone prior to flowering). With CFLs, it can be done on the cheap these days.

9. You know some stuff.
Some of my people, the cancer person especially, can use an ounce a week, that's a lot but they only use it till sleep, hungry or the sick feeling goes away. The way I see it, if you are terminal, all the matters is the end of pain and distress as much as possible.

The CLFs are okay for early clones and seedlings, but to get any real dense flower yield you still need to go with the big boys. I pull a little over 8 zips every two months off of a thousand watts. There is some work being done, some of it by a good friend, with LEDs but no one has seen real results yet.

One thing I've learned in the last year, you can never have a big enough harvest.

11. Wow. An ounce a week, eh?
I totally understand that any law which limits the amounts that sick people need should be fixed.

Ultimately, itd be nice to see it all legalized, but hopefully those in need are taken care of immediately.

12. It Ca at least, we're working on it.
People out there really have no idea how much work goes into relieving pain.

And yeah, an ounce a week. Sometimes more.

13. There are other considerations.
Relative strength: An ounce of this might be twice as strong as an ounce of another. Eating versus smoking: People use more total weight to cook with than to smoke. Cost to grow and conservation of energy and time: You can grow a pound for the same energy cost as an ounce in the same period of time. But most importantly, I think, is the need to remove LE's ability to count things like root balls, plant stems, fan leaves, scuff, and other plant trash as pounds or ounces of dried plant material. These are issues for any grower: personal or caregiver.
