I think the Supreme Court just defined a new movement for us
US Not For Sale

Getting rid of corporate personhood and it's corrupting influences in our political process is job number one. It is POSSIBLE that this could be THE issue that cuts across party lines and unites people of differing viewpoints.Liberal and Teabagger, Democrat and Republican should be able to agree that allowing corporations and even foreign corporations to purchase the legislation they want will destroy everything America has ever come to stand for - particularly one citizen one vote.

We will never have a free and unfettered election again if we do not come together and find a way to kill off this Supreme Court decision. It is a single defining issue that spills into all other issues - corrupt politicians unable to do the work of public governance because they are bought off by corporate campaign contributions now effectively unlimited thanks to SCOTUS.

1. I disagree
Most rightwing asshats I know defend corporations tooth and nail.

5. They've been conned into believing that corporations represent a
free and open capitalist market, when the reality is exactly the opposite.

6. Maybe you should ask them how they will like it when their politicians are
owned outright by foreign interests? Will they approve of that? Most rightwing asshats are also jingoistic and this is what they will relate to. Do they want their Congressman bending to the will of some cheese eating Frenchman?

9. I've had this discussion
and it always ends with them throwing out carp about unions being influential in politics.

12. Unions have nowhere near the amount of money of a large corporation
Where does the union get its money? From a fraction of the pay of unionized workers. Doesn't come close to the amount of influence of the corporations and industries themselves.

People who keep trying to say this ruling gives the unions equal power are just blowing a smokescreen - there is no way in hell it is equal.

14. Yeah, I explain that unions have no where near as much power as they once may have had.

But, this guy is a FuxNews/Limbaugh listener and no amount of pointing out facts will get to him. Lost cause.

16. Them move along to someone that is not terminally ignorant.
Your guy probably has no influence over anyone anyway. I bet most of his freinds and family realize that he is inflexible and incapable of new input. When people get to that stage they are truly lost causes.

24. Maybe you're hanging out with the wrong right wing asshats.
Many of the right wing asshats I know are very skeptical of corporate power and seem fairly willing to listen to populist solutions. If you're talking Country Club right wing asshats, then sure, no deal. But try anti-corporatism with a few blue collar conservatives and you may find some serious common ground. Come on man, everybody's doing it! :P

2. Frankly, this has scared me to death! Our individual votes
will no longer count. This Scotus, with the exception of Sotomayor, has used us since 2000.

More fool I.

What's that sound I hear? Ah, just the death knell of Democracy. It was a nice experiment while it lasted... :grr:

May they live long and prosper.

19. Agreed!
I knew as soon as I heard it on Thom's show that they weren't going to survive the first onslaught of his listeners, much less everyone else who is paying attention to what is happening to our democracy.

15. This just hit Facebook as well -

I've no doubt that they are getting slammed by outraged citizens just now learning about this.

Guess I got in and signed the petition just before their server hamsters exploded.

17. The site is up now.
The backers of this site are many groups who support progressive and Democratic ideas.
I was impressed at the number and names of the groups.

10. I think Obama and the all the Democrats should get out and
and push for this, it would be a win win for us. Unless the Teabaggers are total BS they should be against this decision. I want to hear Obama come out swinging on this at the SOTU speech.

22. I disagree. This one is not hard to understand.
Your vote is literally meaningless with this ruling. All the good candidates will be outdollared early on. Only the corporate yes men will see the light of day and they will pass what they are told to pass.
