Why I'm willing to cut some slack over the aid situation in Haiti
There has never been a natural disaster of this scope that the international community has had to respond to. No, not even the tsunami which was spread out over a much wider area. This disaster is compounded by its being within such a small area.

200,000+ dead
virtually all infrastructure damaged or destroyed
2 million homeless

1. Not making excuses, I agree.

It is an Operations Research, travelling salesman, type problem - and only experience or analysis will allow better execution in another similar situation.

I was floored by the inflatable hospital of MSF - but I am sure it took a lot of planning and design to create something like that.

Similarly, people have learned from their mistakes in other disasters. And hopefully, this disaster is so bad that better procedures will be created for other impossible situations.

3. my post wasn't even particularly about the U.S.
and the factors I listed don't have much to do with proximity to the U.S.

What's weak is your response
