7. I Respect Him Immensely

I understand he doesn't get along well with students/faculty at Princeton, but I am ver impressed with him. He's one person I would choose to be stranded on a desert island with.

I've watched him a lot on tv, including long-format programs like Charlie Rose. He seems like he doesn't have a lot of social skills. Kind of ill at ease with himself.

Now, there are a lot of super smart people I know who also don't have the best interpersonal skills. It doesn't mean I don't "like" them or respect their ideas and intellect enormously. But, actually, I might not want to sit down to dinner with them. I've been around academia too long. But I don't have to "like" the people whose ideas I like.

I hope his friends prove me wrong, and he's a really fun guy. I just haven't seen that side of him.

10. I have met him.

He's kind of a teddy bear. I've been to a few of his lectures where he's been very witty and had a chance to ask him a couple of questions afterward during book signings and he's been willing to give me an intelligent answer and been very pleasant about it.
I think his social skills are better when he doesn't feel rushed to answer.
