Filed for unemployment almost two weeks ago. Got my monetary
determination that week, but STILL have not received my PIN so that I can start making weekly claims. The employment commission has been no help. I understand they are bogged down. The local office's phone line has been busy for the past four days; I had to call offices out of my area to get assistance. They couldn't give me my PIN over the phone, even when I gave them my SSN. One lady said she emailed it to me. Never got it. Another lady said I could call the local office; I told her I couldn't get through. That's why I was talking to her. She said she would mail it to me again and if I didn't get it by Sunday, to go into my local office. I said, "They still won't give me my PIN, so what's the point?" She was no help.

I'm about to lose my shit.

1. You might have to go to an office
It's tougher to ignore someone at the counter than it is to send a bullshit email response, or put on hold from the telephone.

If you don't file your claims on time, you just won't get paid for the weeks that you're unemployed. I wish you luck, both with unemployment, and with your job search.

Thanks for the well-wishes. I'd like to thank my company who laid me off for the added stress of this bullshit.

3. So, do I wait until Monday if I don't get it and file my two weeks or go
tomorrow? I don't think I get paid that first week.

4. One of my friends who is also on unemployment said, "I hope they
didn't put the money in someone else's account." They would need to know my password and file my claims, though...right?

7. In Ohio there is no human to talk to at the office
they have a phone to call them and you wait on hold just the same.

8. Perhaps not at a local office
but surely, there is an office at the statewide level. Perhaps your state representative or senator can expedite this for you. I know on the Federal level, Congress members maintain staff to cut through bureaucratic red tape.

6. Welcome to the club, it took me 8 weeks to get my first check
Here in Ohio you either have to use the phone or the Internet to file. If you have to talk to a human you have to wait on hold, I actually was on hold 4 hours one day. I was going to go to the office in person, guess what it doesn't exist. At the office there is a phone to call them with same as if you are at home.
