Man, things can sure turn to shit in a hurry, huh?
The Haitian earthquake with an unimaginable death toll and an incalculable casualty count.

The loss of Ted Kennedy's seat.

In part as a result of the loss of Ted Kennedy's seat, it now appears our health care reform will be a small box of assorted bandaids and a sample pack of aspirin for each American household ..... or something very close to that.

The Supremes giving greater rights to corporations than to people. Soon enough our politicians will be wearing suits with sponsor logos on them. We the People will be wearing barrels held up by suspenders, with the barrel rims at our otherwise exposed nipples. The one tiny chicken in the pot will be expected to serve the entire neighborhood.

What's next?

14. Chapter 7. They went off the air at 6:00pm tonight.
Heard it on NPR at 5:30. Considering their lineup here, other than Rachel Maddow for an hour or two, is the only one I actually listened to occasionally. Unfortunately, she was up against the Kojo Nnamdi show on WAMU at noon, which I normally listened to.

Oh well.

12. Let's not go overboard. "Very nice"? If you're from Buffalo.
Compared to Florida? Not so much.

24. I LOVE the heat and despise the cold. (Why I'm in South Florida) However, I may
need to learn to cope. Besides, if I could live anywhere, I think Vancouver would be my first choice. I'm a hardcore mountain bike idiot and the lure of the North Shore and Whistler makes my decision to emigrate so much easier. Add to that the health care system and society in general, and that makes it a no-brainer.

The bad news is that my job keeps me outside. Especially in bad weather. I keep the lights on, and power lines don't come down in nice weather. It's always a hurricane or an ice storm or what-have-you.

16. unfortunately we have mostly ourselves to blame
we had a year to really polish the apple and make our party shine, instead we got the idea we could do as we pleased and pushed to hard, did some very dirty deals, turned progressive into a dirty word and pissed off the independent folks everywhere with our shenanigans.
we haft to keep in mind that what we perceive as good and great in reality may hurt others, the party line is not all it's cracked up to be sometimes.

17. Seriously?
Who are you trying to fool? Progressive is not a dirty word and where exactly did you see progressive party lines pushed too far? What "shenanigans" could you possibly be referring too?

If anything, people are disappointed that we did so little this year and fought so half-heartedly for progressive change.

Are you fucking serious? President Obama compromised too much and didn't push hard enough! But no matter how much he compromised, he continued to be blocked by idiot republicans at every turn.

You are probably intimately acquainted with idiot republicans. You know, the ones who live in bizarro world and think Obama is an "evil socialist" who wants to take away our guns, money, and freedom. Are you sure you're in the right place? DU didn't get THOSE talking points.

OH, the Oligarch Bastard Fuckorama will be fighting this one tooth and nail. They got the momentum now.

Honestly, he shouldn't have allowed them to expire . . . he should have done away with them PRONTO. This "empire" is 12 trillion in debt. Time to start sacrificing for the greater good. It's been on OUR backs FAR too long.
