Been Fun Voting ... Been Fun Caring ... Been Fun Trying To Help Those Who Need It...
no point in it now. The SCOTUS ruling today made it impossible to have an impact (and impossible for me to care anymore).

I'm out. I will live Liberally and try to help those close. Can't fight against Walmart though. Don't have the resources or the heart.

To the people I touch now and in the future, I'll do my best.

To the people who need Progressive help. I am sorry. You probably won't see it.

I love you anyway and if I can help you personally, I will.

No point in paying much attention or certainly voting after today though. My vote will never count again.

Peace.

1. How are you different from those on the far right?
Edited on Thu Jan-21-10 07:33 PM by UrbScotty
They're the ones who I thought didn't care.

It's disgusting to see many DUers not care either.

The right-wing loves it when a liberal surrenders. It's basically doing their work for them.

23. It's not about not caring- it's about being realistic.
I KNOW Matcom cares and has for years.
I also know that he is seeing the move by the scotus today
with a clear eye and mind.

Basically, the corporations will now determine WHO runs for office.
That is the most important aspect. The WHO runs for office factor.

Either way, either party, all branches of government will now openly
do their bidding and no longer have any constraints, regulations
or legislative oversight and the corporatist will do what ever the hell they want.

What good is a vote when the outcome is already decided no matter who wins.

are already owned by the corporations, the remaining few who are not
will now be cut loose.

27. Maybe those young and strong enough will wake up and
realize there are other ways to change this country-much better than voting. Americans are certainly under the illusion that everything wonderful came through voting. No, it came with blood in the streets.

No, those damn hippies didn't stop Vietnam-but they are the reason there is no draft today.

Which might be a lose for us-because until the people are in the streets again, nothing is going to change. People didn't magically be given things like worker's rights-they fought for them. But since Americans think history started in 1995 or something, they wouldn't know that. Politicians need to fear us, literally, for anything to change.

Right now we are just manipulated propaganda sucking tubes. They sell it-"change has come!" we buy.

43. You have no right to say we don't care
Matcom has merely thrown in the bloody towel because he sees we are ants fighting giants.

Many of us have spent a lifetime caring, doing everything we could to fight the good fight. We have been fighting not out of self interest, but because we care for others. Many of us won't starve because selfish stupid teabaggers destroy every social program and wreak havoc on our laws and institutions because they are too ignorant to defend their own interests. I didn't join this fight for what I stood to gain. I was defending the rights of others, asking that those less privileged than me have their needs met. If foolish rightwingers want to cut off the lifeline that keeps them from toppling off the side of a precipice because they somehow think they will get a better deal on their own, why should I care?

I don't need my social security benefits to survive. I suspect many of them do. I'll get by without. I don't need a safety net. I have enough to cover my costs, and if I run out, I will just die. Just like they will. Who cares? Those teabaggers want to give up their monthly disability payments, their social security benefits, medicare, etc., who cares? I'll get by somehow.

Willfully ignorant rightwingers want to dismantle the country because they think they will be better off, let them. I think they will be sorry. I have enough resources not to worry either way. And when that's gone, I'll try and get by on my wits as I have always done.

And no, I never wanted things to end like this, but there does come a point when one just has to say no more. Let the inmates take over the asylum. I will just try to avoid contact with them.

If a liberal asks for my help, I will try to help. Otherwise, let the rightwingers go dig in the dumpsters behind corporat America (their heroes)along with their uneducated shit eating teabagger friends.

I will harden my heart against those who destroyed this country and look right through them when they cry and complain about the world they have created.

Why should I care if they dance a jig when I give up the fight? My surrender means they face their just desserts that much sooner. Why should I care?

And yes, disgusting as it sounds, most of what I am saying I have almost been convinced to believe.

I understand exactly why Matcom feels this way.

12. I COMPLETELY understand
I remember how demoralized I was after the '04 elections. I wrote off everything. I am rather cynical as it is, and it was not much of a stretch. Then eventually, I regrouped, and found my fighting spirit again. But this time, I am not sure I can build up a new reserve of "give a damn". Like you, I resolved to act more locally, and to live up to my ideals any way I could. There is much more to civic duty than voting, donating, or watching CSPAN. I still have my principles and ideals, but I now know that they really don't have the reach I had once hoped to attain. I am at peace with that, and myself. I know you will be too, old friend.

As for anyone accusing you of being a quitter, fuck 'em. Must be nice in Unicorn Land, with their heads planted firmly inside their tight sphincters.

As you well know, it sucks to be living during the Decline and Fall.

Worse, it sucks to be living, voting, and especially caring when the Decline and fall was so brilliantly thought out, planned, and executed by people who put the Nazis to shame with their ability to manipulate situations, people, and the system with subtlety and plenty of Plausible Deniability.

Finally, it sucks to be living in such a time when the progress made in the science of manipulation of people is a hundred, a thousand fold of what it was to tyrants in the past.

You and I have been around this ol' DU pretty much since the beginning. I arrived here in late March 2001 and I am pretty sure you were either here already or soon after that.

We caught the last act of the Old Republic, guy. But in the Tragedy of the Fall of the American Republic, the last act is always the most...tragic.

Bad news for us, but not as bad for the poor bastards alive 50 or 100 years from now.

What will it look like? As to specific details, I couldn't venture a guess, but the trends are immutable, huge, and lit like neon arrows to hell.

We were spolied rotten, in that we got to live the first parts of our lives during the post-WWII America, which I am coming more to understand was really not much more than "We have to give the Plebs lots of stuff so they won't start thinking the Russkies have it better."

Was it EVER real? This Modern Americcca erases old memories so fast, I am not so sure anymore.

I understand what you mean, empathize, and agree. I also realize the only "revolution" that the American Subject Populace will likely ever be capable of is one modeled after the 1933 German "Revolution", but with better PR and marketing strategies.

The corporate vote now rules, along with the church (who are corporations too and can spend wildly now).

The Supreme Jokers have brought about the downfall of the US Constitution, and are simply doing their best to bring about the end-times. just think, the most vile and nasty anti-gay ads now become sanctioned and financed by big business and the church. Same for women's rights, down the toilet. Big business controls their vagina's now.

42. But please don't underestimate the law of unintended consequences.
There is no way of telling yet how this news could affect the spending habits of untold millions of Americans. Including those who haven't been tuned into politics.

Yet.

Everyone has a breaking point. And even mass numbers of citizens can have a collective breaking point. Including the deluded and uniformed. And misinformed.

And the word may eventually spread quietly through the streets that it really is 'them against us'.

Sooner or later enough people will be beaten down or demoralized that they actually and truthfully believe

that there is nothing left to lose.

And of course, all bets are off when that happens.
