Think about what its going to do to the cost of television advertising.

I think we may have seen the end of the BowFlex. Advocacy advertising will dominate the airways, they will buy up every available minute and the cost of that rare comodity will increase beyond the reach of the current batch of hucksters - with the exception of the Pharmaceutical Industry, of course.

Go help us poor TV-watchers. Just one more reason to quit.

1. Oh, if it would only get rid of the Bow Flex
and that out of tune fuzz guitar. Unfortunately, what it will do is bribe the FCC to increase time allotted for commercials so that we'll get maybe 10 minutes of programming per half hour with the rest commercials and the Bow Flex will be with us forever.

3. Nothing about this ruling is trivial. I have a big problem
with having to pay for tv service and having commercials taking up most of that time. It should be one way or the other, pay for tv service and be commercial free or have free tv with commercials.

I've got a combo of battered voter syndrome AND battered consumer syndrome. And a gigantic case of F-them-all.

5. That was the initial promise of cable TV when it first appeared in the
1980"s. No commercials as you are paying for the service.....

That didn't last too long.

7. ah ha! I didn't know that. Didn't need cable in the 80's, still could
get free channels in SoCal back then.

9. turn off the tube.
At the end of June, when I moved, I gave up my satellite, and have not watched TV since then.
Besides having no more satellite bill, I've gained hours every day, I've started reading novels again, I no longer have commercials coming into my home, I'm more active/physical and hence in better shape/healthier, and I even feel smarter without that idiot stuff coming into my brain.
I get my news here on DU, and go over to msnbc.com to see Ed, Keith, and Rachel.
I've started buying a few inexpensive DVDs on Amazon and eBay (budgeting about $15/mo, the same as a low-cost Netflix sub) as an experiment, and find I do like having movies I can share (gave 4 of my favorites to my father for Christmas), watch with friends, or watch them again--with many movies, on the second viewing you see a lot you missed the first time, with no worries about having to keep track of them, get them into the mail, no bills to pay, etc. -- or rent videos if you prefer.

It's another way to cut ties to the corporate pigs--no cable/satellite bill, and no exposure to their never-ending, maddening commercials.
