Does anybody remember in the 80s when that old guy was beaten bloody in the street with sticks

Does anybody remember in the 80s when that old guy was beaten bloody in the street with sticks
by two other guys in a Latin American country? It had some political significance I recall; like the guys that beat him were protesters, and everybody stood around and watched while this guy tried to get away with blood all over his shirt. Does anybody remember what I'm talking about? I think it was even on the cover of Time.

1. are you talking about Reginald Denny? It was in Los Angeles during the Rodney King riots.

2. No it wasn't that, this was definately some kind of organized protest.
Like the guys who did the beating were wearing t-shirts with some kind or organization name or slogan on it.
