9. .
This one time, we had severe weather coming in. I thought I could barely hear sirens sounding, so I popped my head outside to verify. Yup. No sooner when I turned around, the phone rang. It startled the crap out of me. Turns out it was a stupid telemarketing call.

5. I've been here for over 30 years and I can't remember every having one.
Very weird weather we've been having all week, we are getting California's weather.

6. It's fairly rare, but it does happen. And we do get them although
they are pretty rare and when they do happen they are rarely very destructive.
We don't get the super powerful ones that you see in "Tornado Ally".

A funnel cloud (it was pretty weak) hit my dad's house in central Phoenix about 12 years ago. It rattled his windows and some Christmas lights he hadn't taken down yet. Not a single one was broken, though. Then it went across the street and uprooted a tree!

7. Desert Ridge got hit.
I first read about it on facebook, and then googled - and this is all I've found

http://www.inquisitr.com/58510/tornado-strikes-scottdale-phoenix-arizona/

The tornado is believed to have hit the Desert Ridge Marketplace at Loop-101 and Tatum. The Arizona Department of Public Safety confirmed the tornado, but damage reports are not currently available.

8. Very odd, I can't find any good articles on it either.
You would think that the local news would be all over something like that!

I hate Desert Ridge, but I wouldn't wish a tornado on them!
