I find the SCOTUS decision helpful . . .
in a perverse way. Let me explain:

I have always been a strong proponent of democracy. There are negatives to any system or theory of government, but, to paraphrase Churchill's famous statement, I have always felt that democracy was better than the rest. Lately, however, the negatives have been piling up like a storm surge. I have begun to think that maybe democracy is not so good after all. The cognative dissonance created by this new feeling has been extremely uncomfortable.

Should we have a democratic society or not? The weight of this dissonance was unbearable.

Now, I secretly realized that we have not really had one for a long time, but I could comfortably maintain my state of denial because it wasn't at all clear.

Then the SCOTUS decision came along and freed me of the delimma. They have clarified their "corporate power doctrine." I no longer have to worry about whether or not we should have another type of system, because democracy itself has become completely irrelavent.

So now I am no longer conflicted. A sort of Dr. Strangelove moment, if you will. (How I learned to love the bomb, er , corporate power)

Only one problem. Now that we no longer have a democracy ...

I want it back!
