IMPEACHMENT- The Missing Word at the Anti-War Demo
Edited on Mon Jan-29-07 06:27 PM by Luckyduck
There is really only one way to stop the madness: impeachment.

Investigations into administration wrongdoing won't do it.

Demonstrations won't do it.

Even cutting funding for the war--while it would be a more powerful statement of opposition from Congress--would not end the conflict or bring the troops home. Bush would simply move money around in the giant Pentagon budget and call it something else.

Critics of impeachment, especially among the Democratic leadership, say it is too soon. They say the first step should be investigations.

This is a misunderstanding, or a deliberate distortion, of what the impeachment process is.

The impeachment process itself begins with investigations. To argue that first a case for impeachment has to be proved before a bill of impeachment should be submitted in the House is akin to saying that a case of murder must be proved before an indictment can be brought.

1. Well, it WAS an anti-war demo!
But I think we're long overdue for an anti-Bush/pro-impeachment-themed one. Maybe in the spring, among DC's cherry blossoms...

7. How exactly does that follow? Bush is impeached. Cheney is then

President. Cheney is impeached. Then his next policy clone becomes president.

And that is assuming impeachment would be followed by being booted out of office.

9. Impeachment is supposed to be based on something, y'know.
What do you have on Cheney's VP?

3. Maybe through the Libby trial revelations . . .
. . . we can end up impeaching Cheney first. He's the head of the beast, after all. Then Shrubby can go down without much struggle (can you imagine him testifying without aid of teleprompter or hidden mic?)

4. It is time
Impeachment is provided in our constitution as a tool to be used by the people. We all know the Bush Admin lied us into a war. What more do we need to know? Investigations may help solidify the resolve of the remaining doubters...but for the sake of our country, Iran, Iraq, and millions of lives around the world -- must make our message impossible to ignore.

5. Impeachment was all over the peace march
the speakers talked about it and half the signs were about it

this protest montage by DUer George Oilwellian has impeachment as a prominent theme of the peace march

We get that impeachment starts with investigations, but it really begins in the prodding the hearts and minds of the American people.

6. At the Jasper AR demonstration,
a group of high schoolers came with signs that said IMPEACH BUSH. Ok, this might not seem like anything until you realize that this is the Arkansas Ozarks, Jasper is the county seat of a red county, and in 2003 there were maybe 20 old hippies, environmentalists, etc, out protesting while in 2007 there were 50 people including the high schoolers AND a family whose son is in Iraq--and the predominant sign message was IMPEACH.

10. not true...Jesselyn Radack said specifically...
"We don't need to increase, we need to IMPEACH!"

And... click here to read her story:
http://www.patriotictruthteller.net

And to read the book, you have to buy it online, it's not available in stores except in the DC area. However, Jesselyn Radack speaks frankly about the Bush administration and the five years of hell they put her through. It's an insiders story about Aschroft and Bush and others and by reading the book you'll glean a clearer view on how they operate.
