How heartwarming is this photo from Haiti?

After a rough week at home, and a truly hellish week in Haiti, it's always nice to have something that you can smile at. Here, it's the sight of a seven year old child being pulled from the rubble after being buried for a week, apparently uninjured, with a great big smile on his face, reaching up to embrace the world again.

7. I don't know why it speaks to me so much, but it does.

Maybe it just hits on the true joy it is to be alive and to breathe another breath, no matter what the circumstances around you may might be. Even when the world around you had crumbled--figuratively, or in this case, literally--you can always, at least for a brief instance, take in the moment and understand what a privilege it is to live another day.

This poor boy's life has been ripped apart. His house has crumbled. His sister was also rescued but who knows what is the status of his family. After today, he's still going to be living in a country gripped by grave poverty. But despite all that, and despite the fact he's been living for week under a pile of rubble without food or water, he still has the inclination to smile when he sees sunlight for the first time again. And something in me says that if he can do that with a smile, we all with far lesser problems in our lives can do that as well.

It truly is one of the most moving and uplifting photographs I've ever seen.
