I Went There so You Didn't Have To... The Idiot Zone.
I couldn't help it.

I shuffled over to Freeperland to have a look at their take on the SCOTUS decision. I was hoping that I would find at least a handful of folks that actually understood the implications of yesterday's decision. I thought to myself; "Maybe if they realize what this really means, there will be a better chance of undoing it before the damage is done".

I guess when you're desperate, you sometimes hope for the impossible.

They are all for it. They're thrilled that 'Free Speech' won out and that 'Liberals' will be upset they can't censor the 'truth'.

They really have absolutely no clue that corporations have just been handed control of the government. They don't understand that if companies can drop billions in bonuses, it will be nothing to outright buy elections. Labor Unions don't stand a chance. Small special interests don't stand a chance. The Supreme Court literally put our country up for sale to the highest bidder, and that bidder won't be 'pro-life', 'pro-2nd', 'pro-Christian', or 'pro' anything they think they believe in. That bidder will be nothing more than 'pro-profit'.

They do not realize that no politician, right or left, will have their constituents' priorities put before those of the corporations that paid to put them in office.

They do not realize that we will all be reduced to starving dogs ideologically, and, in too many cases, almost literally. Once in a while, after the legislators have appeased their masters, they might just throw us a few bones.

In the meanwhile, they will continue to feed the right enough bullshit to keep them blaming 'the other side' for everything.

Well... the morons will finally get everything they thought they wanted; Low paying jobs, unaffordable health care, no legal recourse, and a litany of reversals of rights they've so long taken for granted.

I'd like to think they're about to get what they deserve, but given that they cannot even comprehend the whys and wherefores, their suffering along with the rest of us is of little comfort.

When things really to go to hell, they'll be told to blame us... and they will blindly do exactly that.

1. Yet they would call you a fascist...
Edited on Fri Jan-22-10 02:06 PM by JuniperLea
Or a Socialist... they only know they are mean sounding words, but haven't a clue what the words actually mean.

We're in some bizarre worm-hole... no matter what happens, it will be the fault of Liberals... even if the president we elected can't possibly pass for a liberal.

Edited to say, thanks for going in... I've been curious.

They don't know what free speech is... or the truth. Faux Gnus won, remember? They were awarded free speech. When they were challenged on their clear inability to tell the truth, we were all told that they can say whatever they want because of free speech. So I guess freedom of the press means they are free to lie their rat bastard asses off because if we don't allow them to do so, we impede their free speech.

Worm hole...

14. I don't know what else to think right now...
Without political will, this ruling will stand.

This SCOTUS will likely go down in history as the one that doomed Democracy once and for all.

I hope we're wrong. To coin a cliche, I'm getting too old for this shit.

But because they're the dumbest people who have ever walked the Earth they haven't noticed that.

I know you're right. I know that the mindless masses will be cajoled into just handing them over... and they will swell with pride at their patriotic action.

Dumbasses.

11. Here's pretty much how it will happen;
Corporations will, through their pet legislators who no longer have to worry about their constituencies, strip the rights and protections away from consumers. After people suffer enough harm to try to sue, they'll find they can no longer do so. As more and more people, left, right, and center, experience harm at the hands of the corporations, they will begin to take matters into their own hands. The corporations will then run news reports of 'domestic terrorism'. The people who took matters into their own hands will never have a chance to tell their story, and the trials will neither be fair, nor televised.

After reactive behavior has reached a certain threshold, and crime and 'domestic terrorism' is considered an epidemic, a bill sponsored by corporate legislators will fly quickly through Congress... and the National Guard and Army, thanks to the end of Posse Comitatus, will be dispatched to collect all registered firearms.

With armed squads on their doorsteps, most of the chest-thumping freepers will gingerly hand over their weapons. The few who fight back will die.

And then they'll be told to blame the 'leftist terrorists'.

I don't like to be so pessimistic, but this is more than a possibility now.

5. If Freepers were on the Titanic, they would cheer for the iceburg
I took a quick gander at the insanity on Free Republic this morning and simply had to laugh to keep from crying. Many Freepers are ecstatic at the ruling. They believe that it will neutralize George Soros and unions. That is how deep the Rush Limbaugh dispensed propaganda has penetrated their diseased minds. These dumbasses have no idea how bad this decision was for them personally. One almost wants to buy the whole membership of Free Republic the kind of helmets used for hospital patients that keep bashing their heads into things due to disease or mental illness.

Go iceburg! Go iceburg! Go iceburg!

6. ...a little dark, but you could be right unless something surprising happens. kick.
Edited on Fri Jan-22-10 02:11 PM by FormerDittoHead
I'm not surprised. They think their 401k's give them something in common with the wealthy who control all the corporations.

Something surprising as in our "Representatives" (outside of Grayson and Sanders) start doing their job rather than holding an auction for the highest bidder and all the other bids are forfeited.

Yes. Unless something dramatic happens, we're fucked, Bolivian style.

7. Yep... right up until corporations legislate the freedom to plunder their 401k's...
If they haven't already.

These people are just interminably stupid, and when all their rights and guns are gone, they'll still blame the very people that tried to save their dumb asses.

8. I just got a real insight to their thinking form a RW relative.
I sent a email about the scotus decision to get his reaction. He didn't know anything about it but that didn't really bother him because, in his words "You forget that liberals don't believe in the 2nd amendment so they don't consider it as the final option, conservatives do. You don't need a lot of guns and ammo if you know how to shoot to make your point.

Basically they don't want the government involved with their lives except when they do (roads, police, fire) and anything that would piss off a "liberal" is OK with him because he is armed. What a fucking moron. They live with this fantasy that they can protect their rights against the government with some pistols and rifles like that movie Red Dawn. They must actually think it would be a fair fight. The government would sick drones and gunships on them as fast as they would do it to anyone else. They wouldn't even see who blasted the shit out of them. Never see it coming.

As long as it helps their "team" win they are good with it.

They are simple minded.

Pretty predictable, really.

is just amazing... these people are purely fanatical and no amount of truth will convince them otherwise.

I'm sure our soldiers will love to know that they fight for corporate rights and not the rights of actual human beings, US citizens.

19. I went over there last night to check it out, too...
...and was blown away by the reactions. They literally view corporations as individuals, as people. It's astounding and for some people over there it's enough that democrats are upset about this to make it a good idea...morons. They're also saying that this now evens the playing field since corporations can now compete with unions when it comes to donations which is laughable. My own opinion? Make a bold move toward totally publicly funded campaigns and we don't have to worry about it in the first place. Just say farewell to special interests as a whole and we'll be better off.

28. It'll never happen.
No way will our bought and sold reps ever take the unending river of cash flow out of the process.

Especially now.

All someone has to do to get elected now is sell out to whoever has the most cash.

20. They don't know that they're for or against
They just know that if liberals are against it, they're for it.

It's as simple as that.

Were you hoping for retrospection? Logic? A knowledge of history?

Dream on.

I honestly thought I would find some freepers fuming over their sudden loss of power as individual citizens. But they were oblivious to it! Rush had told them earlier in the day that it was a wonderful, wonderful thing - so they were all elated.

29. I've Actually Encounters A Couple Who Are Real Pissed...
Yep, most of the sheep in freeperville are too stupid to think and will parrot the talking points from their puppetmasters. Their too blinded by party labels and propaganda to see how screwed they are...but that's been an ongoing pattern. We constantly palm slap here wondering how people could vote against their own interests. Simple...they're lazy and blissfully ignorant.

I did catch up with a "friend" on Facebook...a died in the wool GOOPer...more specific, he's a fundie who surprised me by saying how much of a travesty this decision was and how it would replace a government "out of control" (his words) with corporates who would make the government look like choir boys and girls. He got it and was real pissed...and I suspect there are others like that. He actually was concerned that the corporates could go after his church...pushing neo-con ideals over those of the "faith-based" members. He said "if the corporates can buy the government, what will stop them from buying "god". Interesting....
