5. You welcome
Oh and the elderly that were featured in a story early on are also getting help now, from an NGO.

8. It was breaking my heart,
even if I got the cold calculus ... and trust me it is a cold calculus...

Somebody made a triage decision in the early phase. This means that things have gotten substantially better.

It is a group that works with the elderly, the NGO... but the fact that they have gotten there tells me a lot about the logistics picture and resources.

4. Thanks, nadinbrzenzki. The biggest gripe I've had so far is how in the hell the Scientologists...
got a slot at the Port-au-Prince airport. That's a clusterfuck.

6. Look at it this way
BBC last night, they had over 600 flights less than 25 were military, as in transporting military personnel. Most were food, water and medical.

Not that you'd know that if you listen to CNN.

9. Yeah, I know most aren't military. I don't have a problem with the miltary flights either.
The TWO planeloads of raving Scientologists going in to prey on people in a crisis makes me angry. The fact that they got into the crippled airport INSTEAD OF actual relief like MSF or even the military has my blood boiling.

10. I am sure the only reason they were able to land
is that they had something somebody needed on the belly of those planes... and I highly dislike scientologist as well... but unfortunately you cannot keep the crazy out. I don't care if the crazy is scientolgists or a few ahem Christian charities, that push their brand of old time religion in the IV.

11. Maybe, but...
They put 126 people on a 168-seat plane and headed for Haiti to stay for gosh knows how long. I'm guessing that there wasn't much extra capacity for actual relief supplies after loading in the supplies these people will need to be self-sufficient. And at least half are fruitcake volunteers that will be using faith-healing techniques instead of actual medicine.

http://www.miamiherald.com/news/breaking-news/story/1437991.html

" The 168-seat aircraft is the second the church is sending to Haiti. A crew of 126 volunteers flew from John F. Kennedy International Airport to Haiti Sunday to provide water, food and medical supplies to earthquake victims.

Thursday's group will arrive on a plane from Los Angeles before picking up supplies and more passengers in South Florida and departing for Port-au-Prince. About half of the passengers will be ``volunteer ministers'' who will use Scientology techniques to assist the injured, said Mercedes Alvarez, a South Florida Church of Scientology member. "

I guess the only way to keep the crazies out is to specifically put them on a black-list.
