Specter to Bachmann: 'Act like a lady'

Washington (CNN) - A heated political debate and charges of sexism erupted on Philadelphia talk radio Wednesday when Sen. Arlen Specter, D-Pennsylvania, told Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minnesota, to "act like a lady."

Specter and Bachmann appeared on WPHT radio to discuss the what President Obama has accomplished in his first year in office. When Specter began to respond to Bachmann's claim that Scott Brown's special election victory in Massachusetts was a repudiation of the Obama administration's policies, Bachmann interjected - to the clear frustration of the longtime Senator.

"I didn't interrupt you," Specter said. "This is beginning to sound like a TV talk show."

When Bachmann interrupted again, Specter angrily responded. "Now wait a minute, I'll stop and you can talk," he said. "I'll treat you like a lady, so act like one."


"I am a lady," Bachmann retorted.

Seriously, I wonder if it is all an act because she knows that's what her base wants. Just like the drug addicts and alcoholics on right wing radio, they just act like hateful racist retards because thats what their listeners want. But on the other hand I could be way off base.

One part of me is happy to see Bachmann smacked down - and another part is disgusted with Specter for hauling out such an obviously sexist argument.

I'm torn. It would have been much preferred if he'd just told her to stop being rude.

9. I have NO PROBLEM with what Spector told her.

I'm a feminist, but in this situation, she needed to be told something.

Sometimes speakers don't have the time to think how to say something perfectly politically correct and instead, say what they can think of at the time to get the point across. Sometimes getting the point across is more important. This is one of those times.

And it's damn time in my opinion that a few on our side start fighting back a little instead of just letting the other side walk all over them in interviews.
