For those of you screaming about the US role in Haiti
please answer three questions...

1.- WHO in the world has the logistics capacity, and the personnel to do this? Private, public, I don't care.

2.- What if the US chose to stay back? Then you'd be screaming because the US did not play?

3.- What is your plan to help create a system where you will not need military logistics experts...

1. Ok I guess I will have to answer a real world perspective on this
1.- FED EX and UPS come the closest to the logistics capacity of the US Military... they lack some things like forwards air controllers. Or the ability to repair that port and bring it back to somewhat of an operational status, or do oh some other things they've done. So you want to turn to this to Fed Ex? And how much do you think they will charge? There is no profit in disaster at this level.

2.- There would be howling over the hate to brown people. Dime on the dollar on that.

3.- And I see no plan emerging, beyond the UN system, as inefficient as it is, well far more efficient than anything else out there.

Not that this will make any difference, to those who do not realize this.

2. Fed Ex and UPS could maybe meet the airlift requirement
But there's nothing in the world that can meet the sealift capability of the Maritime Administration or Military Sealift command.

3. As I said, they come the closest...
and that is what a lot of folks are missing here.

And lets not go into the fact that their planes are ahem a pain to unload by hand.
