You are NOT having a bad day.
In fact, your problems don't amount to a hill of crap.

http://www.cnn.com/2010/HEALTH/01/22/haiti.sonia.flury/?hpt=C1">Woman feeds daughter urine in attempt to keep her alive

...Then she cut her bra off and tried to use it to choke herself. I stopped her, and my daughter told me, "You are selfish. You see I'm suffering and you don't want me to take myself out of my misery." I told my daughter she couldn't kill herself if God wanted her to be kept alive and stay here. My daughter stopped and asked God for forgiveness....

1. 'In fact, your problems don't amount to a hill of crap.' - Oh for heaven's sake.
I know what kind of moment you're going for here, but how do you know what personal hell anyone is going through?

2. I'm playing the odds.
Odds are, your problems aren't this bad. If they are, of course, I apologize.

4. Indeed.
...Plus, I don't read a lot of stories with my mouth open in astonishment any more. So I thought I'd share. :)

5. +1. Doncha just love the "let's put things in perspective" bunch?
As if misery should be some kind of contest that "YOU WILL LOSE", no matter what.

Ridiculous. All of us are fighters just trying to survive life. Some have it worse off than others, and we acknowledge and appreciate that fact.

8. Oh, please.
You've got to be fucking kidding me. Now I'm part of a "bunch"?

It's a heart-rending story, well told. The kind we don't hear very often. And you want to make it about you.

Amazing.

11. It is a heart-rending story. But you had to make it about us
daring to care about threats to our form of government. Why even conflate the two?

Don't you think people can care deeply about both?

10. Stories like this one remind me
why it's important for some people to be people of faith.

This woman may not have survived if not for her faith and it

will help her through any issues with survivor's guilt that may come up.

Thanks for posting this.

12. No, donations of food and medical care and therapy will help
Pfffft.

"People of faith"? What the hell does that even MEAN? It's a meaningless term.

Bleh.

13. It's the term people of faith use to describe
themselves. Who are you to tell them otherwise?
I'm not one of them, but I can appreciate that for
this woman food and water was not an option,
her faith was her salvation.

24. I want to quantify my post
because I didnt read that you said "some people" the first time. You are right that it is important for some people to have faith. For some people it isn't important at all. I was a believer for some years and when I stopped believing and lived my life for myself, I feel like I finally became free. I live my life by the golden rule not "God's law" and I am the better person for it.

7. Thanks for the reminder...
When I'm sitting around on the pity pot lately, all I have to do is think of all those poor souls in Haiti...dead...suffering...lost entire families...starving...having crushed limbs amputated, often without anesthesia, in barely sanitary conditions...

Sometimes we really do have to put things in perspective.

Get a grip, people. When was the last time you had to drink urine to quench your thirst?

22. I'm surprised
People in this thread are not angry at the mother for doing so, actually.

Urine from dehydrated persons is rich in salts (bad for hydration) and uric acid (toxic). I wouldn't be surprised if she unwittingly caused her daughter's death, to be quite honest, as the symptoms sound suspiciously like a very severe case of dehydration.

The mother, of course, would have no idea she is doing this, but they should have at least mentioned it in the article.

The mother probably didn't know better.

But, I was a little surprised that so many people were piling on Robb.

But giving urine to a dehydrated person when you yourself are dehydrated? You may as well be giving them salt water.
