I am working the Hope For Haiti telethon - somethng amazing just hapened!
Edited on Fri Jan-22-10 10:57 PM by thefool_wa
My company is one of many customer service providers worldwide that are supporting the telethon and I have signed on to help manage call flow through our global services this evening.

One of our agents just took a 1 MILLION DOLLAR DONATION!

There is hope, for the people of Haiti, and all of man kind.

To whomever that was....thank you!

update: our agents have fielded over 20K calls in a little over 3 hours. We have had kids call in donating their piggy bank money and a lady who is out of work and giving her cigarette money. This has been one of the most humbling experiences of my life.

7. I only have anecdotal data from just my company
and that million dollar donation gves us an average of about $100 just by itself....so I imagine we are in the neighborhood of 125-150 per, maybe even more.

9. One of these days I hope to be that person donating that million.
Not all of those with money are greedy and careless. My dream is to help people.

11. I wish I knew
but all of it is being funneled through the "Hope for Haiti" fund, which I believe is being managed by the Red Cross...so I would imagine that all, or at least the extreme vast majority of it is going towards the rebuild effort.

Hit their website, you should be able to get there from MTV.com (who is hosting the telethon), I'm sure they have distribution details there.

Red Cross
Oxfam America
Partners in Health
Unicef
yelehaiti
World Food Programme
Clinton Bush Haiti Fund

The website says that 100% of funds go towards aiding the relief efforts. The money will be used for the purchase of food, water, blankets, tents, and other items necessary for survival.

16. I pray the $$$
gets to those in need.

All the money donated during Katrina? Where did it go? People still living in formaldahyde trailers.

I don't trust the Red Cross and I certainly don't trust W.

Who is in charge of this $$$$? Where do I go to see how the money is spent?

And the antibiotics that Haitians need? Why isn't Big Pharma stepping up? No...they want our donations to pay for them....gee wonder what they will charge.

19. thanks for sharing
The million dollar donation is very exciting. I also find hope in the smaller donations that come with stories like those that you shared. I was touched by how many kids came forward and donated their piggy bank money, profits from a bake sale, or part of their allowance. It is great that there are so many kids that understand the importance of helping others.
