A sure fire question to shut up Rwers
Who love the Supreme Court decision:

"ok, what is to stop Al-Qaida from setting up a corporation and lobbying for things they want, like let's say, cutting support to Israel?

Here's some one liners, meant as humor, but that will get under their skin:

"Well, I guess this means Hugo Chavez will be able to buy a few candidates with his oil money."

"Now Carlos Slim and a few drug lords can buy some Congressmen and Senators to improve our immigration policy. Welcome back to Mexico, Texas!"

"Now our Government can be made in China too, or India, or Saudi Arabia. Maybe they can finally win the war against Christmas we liberals have been fighting, or even ban Christianity altogether, it SO contrasts with a corporate agenda, you know. "

"Hey, do the Catholics count as a corporation?, if so, bye-bye Baptists, hello Vatican paid stooges, that's all right, the Mormons can always buy a Senator in Utah."

And last, but far from least, from the home office in Dubai, UAE: (with due apologies to Dave Letterman)

"I wonder, will we be sold in Euros or Yen?, Madison Avenue won't be taking dollars soon."

1. And why not their biggest bugaboo:
"I read that Gay Marriage, Inc., is contributing a billion dollars to this year's congressional elections. Finally it looks like gay marriage will be legal nationwide. All it took was a little arcane Supreme Court decision opening the floodgates of money, and Presto! Rick and Gary are registering at the bridal registry at Nordstrom's! You know, I did think John Roberts had a certain look in his eyes back during those confirmation hearings...

4. BRILLIANT!
Now, not that we should do anything to discourage LGBT marriage, this is a disclaimer, please do not think I am trying to sick RW on you, but...

"You know, Dick Cheney does want his daughter to be able to get married, guess he will get what he wants, as usual. I wonder how big a check Haliburton wrote to Gay Marriage Inc.

6. I don't think so. Anyway define foreign corporation?

Even corporations that are supposedly (ours) are multinationals and have no loyalty to anything but cash. How could you let Ford buy a Senator, they have operations all over the world. Then deny Toyota they probably have as many employees in the US as Ford does. What about Exxon why should they be able to buy themselves a Senator and then you deny Venezuela's Citgo from getting theirs.

7. Not as long as they have US citizens as shareholders.
Those are the people that SCOTUS allegedly is trying to protect, the folks that invest in the corporations and expect a profit.

9. Exactly Americans have shares in Toyota or
Edited on Sat Jan-23-10 01:22 AM by doc03
just about any similar foreign multinational. The way I understand it it doesn't matter where the Corporation is from or who owns it even one that is owned by a foreign government or just a foreign individual. Is any corporation a citizen of the US? I am a citizen of the US and if I own stock in Toyota I have a right to my free speech the same as a shareholder in Ford don't I?

10. That's how I understand it.
it is just screwed up. Shareholders do not have any control over the operations of the corporation. They cannot pick or choose who the corporation supports.

8. I'll tell you the first state to be bought and paid for will be
West Virginia, Don Blankenship already bought himself a WV Supreme Court Judge and pretty much owns the Governor. His Massey Energy will spend whatever it takes to defeat Rocky and Byrd. Big business is going to put John Kasich in as governor of Ohio and they will replace Sherrod Brown with a Republican. This will give the Republicans the power to unseat just about any incumbent they desire to.
