Jay Leno - WHCD May 1, 2010
Heard that Jay Leno was going to emcee the White House Correspondent's Dinner this year and looked it up to see the date - May 10. I always enjoy these and thought I'd share the date in case anyone else is curious.

1. He is a working man. The hardest working man in show business?

4. Where is this "stole" coming from? Your short memory?
The Tonight Show was removed from Leno and given to Conan by NBC. Conan didn't protest that OH NO! That's Jay's job! Not one word of protest. Conan was FINE with it.

Leno didn't voluntarily announce his retirement at such and such a date and send NBC scrambling to make sure of a replacement. NBC decided they would retire him and that was that. Except when the time came they got a little nervous and put him in at ten pm.

So the thief, near as I can tell, is CONAN. Did Conan get screwed? You betcha! Did he earn it? Uh, yeah.

6. Jay Leno's contract with NBC was up. He was planning to move to ABC...
in fact, ABC affiliates had begun to get word that Leno would be on the network in 2010. When NBC gave him his own show, the one that flopped, Leno agreed to stay with NBC. He didn't agree to do it for free, so he did prosper substantially from the offer, reported to be in excess of $30 million.

Jay Leno is hardly the victim here. :eyes:

Both Conan and Leno had contracts with NBC, contracts they agreed to, contracts that they profited from.

Both knew that Conan was, by contract, guaranteed the host job of the Tonight Show in 2010 and that Leno, by contract, would be out of the job.

Leno couldn't cut it at the new time slot. The NBC affiliates were pissed, Leno's show was so lame the audiences turned off NBC and the affiliates didn't have an audience for their news, their major money maker.

That is why Conan's numbers didn't measure up, Leno killed the market, the audience. When Leno had the show NBC aired successful and/or at least interesting anchor shows that lead to an audience catching the affiliates news and then Leno.

So yeah, NBC fucked Conan, broke their promise and Leno is no victim in this, he is the one that screwed the audience pooch and he got the reward.
