Was Gibbs largely responsible for the populist themes of Obama's campaign ending a year ago?

A screen crawl under a cable interview with WH Press Secretary Robert Gibbs revealed a detail I had not noticed before: Gibbs worked on the successful last re-election campaign in 1998 of the ultimate longtime Democratic economic populist in the Senate--Ernest "Frita" Hollings of South Carolina (See http://nationaljournal.com/decisionmakers/dm/15/ for a brief bio of Gibbs).
Together with more savvy and coherent populist Byron Dorgan (who in 1999 predicted that financial deregulation would lead to a future bank bailout), Hollings was a throwback to pre-DLC Democratic Party appeals to "the little guy".

The WH seems to be interpreting the MA upset loss of Ted Kennedy's seat as a signal to return to the populist anti-lobbyist themes that swept both Obama and Brown into office.

Can Robert Gibbs help Obama turn a big lemon into lemonade? Has anybody noticed populist rhetoric from Gibbs during past Monday press briefings?

I'll be very curious to hear what Gibbs has to say tomorrow and in weeks to come.
