White House adviser Plouffe fails to mention most of Obama's pre-existing conditions promise

White House adviser Plouffe fails to mention most of Obama's pre-existing conditions promise right after NYT & CBS report it may be dropped

http://www.americablog.com/2010/01/white-house-adviser-plouffe-fails-to.html

A day after former Obama campaign manager David Plouffe is elevated to a more senior adviser status at the White House and the DNC, Plouffe pens an op ed in the Washington Post in which he seems to suggest that much of President Obama's promise to ban pre-existing conditions is now being jettisoned. Plouffe wrote in the op ed, which was certainly cleared with the White House, if not written by them:

Parents won't have to worry their children will be denied coverage just because they have a preexisting condition.
Their children? The original promise - even the bad Senate bill - protects everyone, of any age, from being denied coverage because of pre-existing conditions. Now it's just children?

And before anyone argues that Plouffe was simply using children as an example - that the legislation could still cover everyone - look at what else happened in the last two days. CBS News reported that the pre-existing conditions promise was now looking unlikely. But even worse, the NYT talked to folks on the Hill and health policy experts, and they were told the compromise package might just protect kids under the age of 19 from being denied for pre-existing conditions. No one else.

It would sure be one hell of a coincidence if Plouffe, on behalf of the White House, is now talking about kids being protected from pre-existing conditions when the growing chatter in town is that only kids may now be protected from pre-existing conditions - that the rest of us are about to get tossed under the Martha Coakley bus.

1. What the hell
This was one of the keystones of the health reform, one of the only good things left. Now they are tossing that out too??
:wtf:

Fuck it, just don't pass anything if everything halfway decent is being dropped.

4. Guaranteed issue without a mandate is a no-go.
This has been said since day one. I'm certainly not surprised.

This is the consequence of not passing the Senate bill and going with a "scaled back" bill.

19. No, my hubby
who is a family physician had a heart attack ten years ago while in his 40's. United dropped him and no one will insure him at any price. We have applied over the years to EVERY company out there.
I hold my breath that nothing happens to him and we end up losing everything.

36. United dropped him so that is a different situation.;..
I have severe COPD and have no trouble transefering from one company to another as long as there is no break in coverage.

I can be dropped at any given time. Perhaps because I have medicare as a back-up...

6. At the rate they are going...
They'll o.k. the insurance companies to continue to deny for pre-existing conditions, but still keep in the mandate. They are about one step away from advocating that everyone has to buy insurance under penalty of fine, but that they won't be able to actually use it.

7. it makes me want to vomit
I do not understand why EVERY OTHER WESTERN DEMOCRACY can have a working health care program for all of its citizens... why they have been able to have these for GENERATIONS... and the U.S. is too fucked up, too controlled by special interests in the insurance and pharma industries to implement a cost-effective system here.

what a failure of leadership.

not only on the part of Obama. On EVERY RIGHT WING DEMOCRAT. On EVERY REPUBLICAN.

You're all WORTHLESS to the American people. WORTHLESS WHORES. we don't need this kind of representation.

government in this country is already so owned by special interests that the well being of the American people is simply disregarded. what a waste of talent, time and energy in this nation- that those who simply need to live in a democracy that regards the health of its citizens as more important than the bonus of a fucking insurance co CEO.

but that's what we've got, here.

American government has failed the American people. This can be traced directly to conservative policies over the last 30 years. The failures are getting to decide the future.

9. Pre-exisiting condition exclusions are THE single biggest reason people were screaming for reform
in the first place.

This is really really really bad. And when the kids turn 19, they get thrown under the bus too?

How many clips using the words "No one will ever again be denied healthcare due to pre-exisiting conditions" do you think exist from the primary and Presidential campaigns?

What about the National High Risk Pool? Gone?

David Plouffe is back with a big editorial in today’s Washington Post arguing for why Democrats must pass health care reform, and soon. As part of his argument, he enumerates the immediate benefits of passing the bill:

If we do pass it, dozens of protections and benefits take effect this year. Parents won’t have to worry their children will be denied coverage just because they have a preexisting condition.

John Aravosis and others have read this paragraph to mean they’re dumping pre-existing conditions provisions for adults. No. Plouffe was speaking only of the immediate benefits of passing the Senate bill, which does have an exception for children under age 19 that takes effect upon passage. Adult pre-existing conditions exclusions are prohibited for years beginning 1/1/2014.

Let’s all calm down, shall we?"

I am simply posting an article..you got a problem with that?? Don't you want people to know what may or may not be happening? What happened to the DU i used to know and love..now we have posters calling others liars for posting articles from web sites we have long credited for bringing truth out of the shadows??

WTF us going on here anymore?

Remember John Aravosis worked with Andy Stephenson and many of us exposing Jeff Gannon/Guckert.

seems he was a good source for all the years Bush was in office..but now you deem him not a good source..wtf..and you think we should care who you think is a good source???????

Try CBS on this and NYT..

but let me check with you..is Crooksandliars a good source??????? Do I have your permission to post a crooksandliars about CBS ????????and this story..does it get the approval of your minders or talking point folks?

13. It was always overblown
Yeah, the legislation said people could not be denied for preexisting conditions. But the addition of Ensign's amendment forcing people with employer sponsored plans into wellness programs gave them the ability to price gouge those who had health concerns and the loophole for rescissions meant those people might get a policy but they were still subject to having it yanked as soon as they need it. Add in the loophole for annual coverage limits to be imposed for 'certain conditions,' and we start to see it was always disingenuous to lead people to believe they would be protected by this legislation.

All we've lost here is an illusion that was never real to begin with.

20. I am glad to see any step which may help us. I realize Plouffe was
considered a great asset in the campaign.

This is not meant to criticize. We are having Problems
with Independents--Blue Collar Independents. Does Plouffe
have an understanding of the different groups? Just asking.

To come out the "The Children" is so lame and expected from
Democrats. Do we never watch Congressional Sessions?

It is almost a joke. The GOP see the Dems as using the "Children"
trying to put themselves in favor.

Ordinary Democrats know this is nothing. Who will not help
children??? You can get some GOP to pass S.Chip. Sure those
Rock-Ribbed Stingy Conservatives will not, but not all Republicans
will come out against children.

Plouffe has started in the typical Democratic style.

I shall wait and see.

The biggest thing i have fought a lifetime for is that everyone in this nation has great health care coverage.

Not this shit that is being passed off as "health care"..it is health shit!

And i have lived in Canada ..are their health care policies perfect..no..is their coverage perfect..no..but it is a damn sure 100% BETTER THAN WHAT WE HAVE , AND I KNOW NO CANADIAN THAT WOULD GIVE UP THEIR COVERAGE FOR WHAT WE HAVE!

I will not fight and work for shitty policies that only the Insurance boys and Big Pharma get the care..they are getting care for their profits..that is the only care that is coming from this bill!
