Oh, sorry, that was Napoleon. He defeated everyone who stood in his way, walked into Moscow in victory, and was then crazy enough to wait for the Russian winter to come along. He was forced to retreat back to France. And he lost his army along the way.
Dear Mr. President:
You beat every opponent you encountered. You owned Washington, D.C. and the goodwill of the people. And you had a popularity rating beyond envy. But somehow, you managed to blow it due to the ice water that the Republican Party dumped on your parade. (Not to mention the back-stabbing by pseudo-Democrats.) And you also managed to lose the army of people who stood behind you.
I have no idea what you will do next, or how you will salvage the congressional elections that will take place less than 10 months from now. You may find a way to pull it out. Or the thugs of the other party may crush us.
But here are my questions. Why did you play with our dreams? Why did you appeal to our better instincts? Why did you raise our hopes? Why did you fill our heads with the illusion of a better world? And even if you believe you didn’t con us, why did you con us?
Your Russian winter is upon you, Sir. You’re on the defensive and trying to figure out what the hell went wrong. But, most tragically, Sir, you’ve lost us – your army.
Do you really believe you’ll get the online contributions that you got the last time around?
Do you really believe the admiration of you, and faith in you, still exist?
Do you really believe we’re going to fall for the same line of crap again?
Do you really believe we’re going to be there for you when you haven’t been there for us?
Sir, you are in deep trouble. But more importantly, “We The People” are in deep trouble. And your response to date has been less than adequate. The clock is running on you, Sir. But more importantly, it’s running on us.
Respectfully,
A Former Believer
