Robert Kennedy was so damned cool, had such great morals,
and was so ahead of his time, which is why he was cut down in the height of his life.

I'm watching PBS.

"Contain the savageness of man, and make gentle of this world."

1. I loved Bobby.... but he did have some flaws
especially early on in his career, during his time on the McCarthy Hearings, and with respect to his time as attorney general. I have great respect for him, but I think we need to acknowledge his evolution. He was not perfect.

3. Are you perfect, and who said he was? He was a very moral,
nice man who evolved in his thinking. Think about that. If we aren't allowed to grow, what should we be allowed to do?

I really really did not. Is something bothering you, babylonsister?

11. I think you need to give him credit for doing the right thing,
and I wasn't belittling you. Pls. don't be so defensive.

I was just pointing out how great this PBS program was, and Mr. Kennedy. I've been plowing through Teddy's autobiography, have a few chapters to go, and maybe that has made me sensitive.

15. I DO credit him with doing the right thing. I adored Bobby..
That he did evolve so significantly during his lifetime--in his thinking, his approach to politics, to the war, to the people-- is incredibly powerful and positive. Few men are able to become truly great in their lifetime. Bobby was on the cusp of greatness. We are all the poorer for the loss.

6. I credit him with a learning curve, which says a lot. I think he would have been a good
prez. But to say his morals were great. Well, they evolved.

Just as the latter poster said.

8. He was the last real hope for having a President who would stand for the People
There's no doubt about it. We've not had one since then that would risk it. Not anyone who got within spitting distance of the White House, anyway.

13. Some people thought it would be Obama.
It's so sad. It could have been.

I remember Bobby talking about South Africa and how we had to oppose it because it was "the right thing to do.". Who else in this country even talked about it back then?

20. Your assessment is premature, I think.
But keep on keeping on.

I think Obama has the cojones to do what needs to happen, but he is 'required' to clean up idiot son's mess, and it was a helluva mess he was left with.

We have 3 more years. We'll see.

23. No one would be happier than I if Obama turned out to be a man of the people
We will none of us ever know how different our world would have been if John and Bobby had lived. I am hoping to see Obama have the courage to stand up for us. I have suggested in my correspondence to the White House, though, that the first step to getting out of a hole is quit digging and that if you're suffering from a perception that your running the Goldman Sachs administration you might want to flush the GS guys out of your office. I'm encouraged to see he let Volcker and Warren out of that broom closet he's had them in. I even saw Goolsbee's quoted in a recent article. I think he was stashed behind the water heater in the basement. All good signs these players on the team have been moved to the front. Disturbing he is still pushing Bernanke's nomination but we'll see.

9. He grew into a leader of great moral courage.
I love him & always will. He had guts, and I love guts. He is one of my most special heroes. Oh, how I miss him. What was the program you watched? I'd love to see it.

12. It's so weird to watch
a person evolving and learning from their past mistakes, nitpicked when recalling how great they were.

14. Didn't see the show. He *became* great when he became....
senator. Before that he was mean and mediocre. JFK's death wizened him.

Can you imagine a NY United States Senator having the guts to propose a coalition gov't with the VN Communists in 1967? Suggesting that we send humanitarian assistance ( i.e. blood) to our alleged Viet Cong enemy?

He thought outside the box and *changed minds*.

When I think of the daisy-chain of mediocrities and sub-mediocrities that have followed him in that seat ....... never mind.

.... and we got Nixon instead, launching the career of shitstains like Cheney, Weinberger & others, en route to the destruction of the former "United" States o' America....

And, very likely, the reason it is futile to hope any present day leaders will try to buck our masters.

He worked for McCarthy. Love him, but his morals weren't always perfect.
