The Irrelevance of Bin Ladin
An audio message allegedly from Usamah Bin Laden was released Sunday, claiming that the attempted Christmas day airline attack over Detroit was his work.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and assert two things about the audio. First, I do not think it is genuine. Second, I think it demonstrates that Bin Laden, whether he is dead or alive, is now irrelevant.

Nothing about this 'message' smells right.

The audio's claim that Bin Laden was behind the Christmas day bombing is dubious. The modus operandi of Nigerian terrorist Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab bore no resemblance to that of Bin Ladin's al-Qaeda. Bin Laden plans operations for years beforehand; attempts to arrange for simultaneous large attacks or attacks on symbolic targets; and uses teams. One guy hastily recruited in an amateurish attempt that only blows up his own crotch? That isn't al-Qaeda.

2. Question
Which USA government agency vets and releases Osama's press releases?

they just seem so bogus and phony.

What does the FBI and CIa and Homeland Security and all such government agencies have to say about this?

It just seems to fall from the sky and all government agencies let it do so without question or comment?

3. And The Sheeple Are Still Scared Shitless
The other night I had a "discussion" regarding the prison here in Illinois that will house the Gitmo detainees. She was all freaked out despite the prison being nearly 250 miles from here...concerned some "terrorist" will escape and fly a plane into her pretty little head. Generally she's reasonable, but no matter how much info I showed her, she was all a flutter about how bin Laden is just waiting to strike again. With what? Rocks? This country has become a bunch of wimps...afraid of the boogie man in a cave. No doubt she had her head filled will all the propaganda and it's taken root.

You'd figure without any real means of communications (supposedly the second he gets on a sat phone, the drones are on the way) and even less resources, this is such a joke...and a cruel one played on the American people abetted by the corporate media. As I told her, if there's another terrorist strike in this country, it'll be a crazed teabagger who thinks his guns are gonna be taken away or another Tim McVeigh. That spun her head even further. It's this mindset that makes this charade work...

7. So true!
I was just ranting to my wife this AM about your very point.
A guy in a cave has brought this country to it's knees - it's so easy even a caveman....
What have we become?? This is rapidly leading to genocide. We're so out-of-our minds crazy about these people that the only thing solution for so many Americans is to exterminate them - whoever they are!!
Let alone the fact that the odds of being killed in a terrorist aircraft attack is about ten times the odds of being struck by lightning. Check the Weather Service's budget lately? It's annual is probably about one day's of the expense of "fighting" the cavemen.
We have spent all of our money and thousands of lives fighting something or someone we can't even identify. We're fighting our own freakin' shadows.
...and I think you're right on about the real "terrorist" threat in this country - just add in religious zealots (you know, of the "real" God!) with the teabaggers.

8. I endorse this type of thinking
The missives need to be put in their proper place. They are the desperate bleating of propagandists accustomed to exploiting the attention the Bush regime afforded them.

12. I think bin Laden is saying it was his version of al Qaeda because
he is on the defensive in Pakistan. I think he will be killed or caught pretty soon. The reason why it took 4 weeks for this statement to come out was because bin laden would have had to send an envoy to Yemen to check with al Qaeda on the Arabian Peninsula if it was okay for Obama to claim such a thing. I'm guessing they don't use email or telephones. Just a guess but I believe him to be alive and suffering now that Pakistan is finally pushing back on al Qaeda in Pakistan. Only a very weak man would have to claim responsibility for something his organization did not do. He also said it had to do with Israel....which makes me believe Osama is trying to appeal to more moderate muslims rather that just the nutcakes. He certainly has changed from the bin Laden who was at war with George W. Bush.

15. You don't actually believe that shit, do you?
Sounds like the plot for a bad Grade B movie.

By the way, what did Obama claim?

17. He claimed responsibility for the Xmas day bombing attempt. Al Qaeda on the Arabian Peninsula
(Yemen) had allready claimed responsibility right after the attack (and that was the intel that was coming out of the bomber himself).

I think he was dead before the invasion of Iraq in 2003.
