Not looking good in Delaware for the Senate - Beau Biden is not running.

I mean, it's a smart move for the younger Biden. He was just elected AG a few years ago and spent one year in Iraq. So some folks see him as not having alot of experience. Plus we have a very high profile child molestation case that he is handling. If he were to run for senate now, it would seem like he's neglecting his duties for greener pastures.

Right now the only candidate running for office is Republican Mike Castle, the only Republican in our state capable of winning the entire state. The good news - he's not a vile republican, he's pretty moderate. The Bad News - he's still a republican.

The only other person that could run a strong race against him would have been Former Lt. Governor John Carney. But Carney is running for Mike Castle's old house seat (which he should win easily - so that'll be a +1 for Dems in the house).

I do think one day we'll see Beau in the senate. Hell I think he has what it takes to run for US President one day. But he's probably doing the smart thing waiting. Carper and Castle are both nearing 70, which means one of those seats will be opening up in the next 6 years or so.

Beau Biden Not Running For Senate In Delaware

DOVER, Del. — Delaware attorney general Beau Biden announced Monday that he will not seek election to the U.S. Senate seat once held by his father, Vice President Joe Biden.

The younger Biden told supporters in an e-mail that he will run for re-election as attorney general rather than seek the Senate seat his father held for 36 years.

Biden's decision comes on the heels of a GOP upset in Massachusetts last week that ended the Democrats' filibuster-proof majority in the Senate. It leaves veteran Republican congressman and former two-term governor Mike Castle, one of the most successful politicians in Delaware history, still waiting for a Democratic opponent.

"I have a duty to fulfill as attorney general, and the immediate need to focus on a case of great consequence. And that is what I must do," Biden, 40, wrote. "Therefore I cannot and will not run for the United States Senate in 2010. I will run for re-election as Attorney General."

The Senate seat is now held by Ted Kaufman, Joe Biden's longtime confidante and former Senate chief of staff, who was appointed by Delaware's then-governor to serve in an interim capacity until the 2010 election. Kaufman last week reiterated the pledge he made upon being appointed that he would not be a candidate in 2010.

Since returning home in September after a yearlong deployment to Iraq with his National Guard unit, Beau Biden had been focused on his family and his job as attorney general.

In recent weeks, his agency has been enmeshed in the case of a Delaware pediatrician charged with sexually assaulting several of his patients. Prosecutors believe Dr. Earl Bradley, who was arrested in December, may have molested more than 100 children over the past decade.

It was the whole world that assumed Dad wanted to save his senate seat for his son. I have to respect the fact that Beau (and probably with Dad in agreement) wants to do the job he is elected to do. I think he's a good AG. And there are alot of questions in this Bradley case that complaints were filed to the AG office and nothing was done. Mind you, Beau has been AG for 2 years and 1 of those years he was in Iraq - so he's pretty clean in this matter. But this creepy doctor has molested & raped over 100 children while running a pediatrics office. So this guy has probably been doing this for years we're guessing.

7. No, what happened was that Biden Sr said it, and probably upset Biden Jr

who wanted people to hear it from him. So Joe Biden -- rather awkwardly -- said no, he meant Kaufman. This morning Beau made his own announcement.

8. I certainly hope some Democrat runs

I really would at least like to see the Republicans actually have to fight for the seat and spend tons of money. Giving them a completely free ride here gives them more leverage to spend resources in other states.

Even if Castle had serious competition. It only takes about 1-2million to run a competitive race in that state.
