Indiana Senator Evan Bayh is another Democratic incumbent who could find himself in a tough reelection battle this fall. A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely voters in the state finds that Bayh attracts support from just 44% or 45% of voters when matched against his top potential Republican challengers.

Congressman Mike Pence is reportedly considering running against Bayh. At this time, he attracts 47% of the vote while Bayh picks up 44%.

A former Republican congressman, John Hostettler, has already indicated he will challenge Bayh. In that match-up, it’s Bayh with a three-point edge, 44% to 41%.

Freshman State Senator Marlin Stutzman has announced that he is in the race. He trails the incumbent by 12 points, 45% to 33%.

I am committed to helping oust Bayh, but if I voted for Pence or Hostettler, I would need to BE committed.

But for all the good he has done for Indiana, there ain't all that much difference between Bayh and Pence. I know, I know, spare me the lecture....there ain't much difference.

It's your vote and choice...and respected for being so, but letting a scumbag like Pence get into the Senate and then entrench himself that would make it hard to get rid of him may make you think back someday that there was a difference. Sometimes one shit sandwich has a better smell than another one...

5. If the choice is between Bayh and Pence

I will hold my nose and vote for Bayh, the (barely) less of two evils.

7. Same here. If Bayh has competition in the primary I will vote for his opponent.

I want the best candidate to win the primary even if it is Bayh.

It is my hope that

1) he runs scared because the primary results are closer than he expected even if by a wide margin.
2) he wins by a smaller margin than in previous elections.
3) he made to realize that he needs to be more like his father.

6. I had this discussion with my family and a few Indiana Democratic

party activists, some of which are family.

They want a primary fight badly but no one is stepping up. Their biggest fear, beyond their justified complaints about Bayh's capitulation to Republicans, is the fact that no one (in that group) believes he is going to win. The lesson from Massachusetts for them is that only a real progressive candidate that can clearly distinguish themselves from the Republicans will be competitive in this race. Bayh's been riding daddy's coattails for a long time. The ride may be ending.

Even my grandmother plans on writing in a candidate. She feels if the state winds up with Pence that Bayh has no one to blame but himself.

he hasn't demonstrated why he is qualified to be Senator. I don't know of any worthwhile legislation that he has pushed through.

If he had any guts and energy he could be a good Senator.

He talks conservative way more than he votes conservative. Don't get me wrong, he's a tool, but his voting record isn't anything like what Mike Fucking Pence would have. I understand frustration, but no, you don't want Mike Pence in the Senate.
