Haiti: FoxNews lies about Cuba’s role

A January 13, Rupert Murdoch's US network FoxNews claimed that while the US “was leading international relief effort in Haiti“, Cuba was “conspicuously absent from the roster of helping hands”.

The opposite is the case. At the time the earthquake struck, Cuba already had 344 of them doctors and paramedics working in Haiti. Also, in the past 12 years 450 young Haitians have graduated as doctors from Cuban colleges, free of charge.

From January 13 further teams of Cuban health workers, accompanied by Haitian medical students studying in Cuba, began arriving, with medical supplies.

A January 12 Granma article said that, within a week of the earthquake, “Cuban doctors in the Haitian capital 13,418 consultancies, with 1,078 operations, more than 550 of them considered major surgery. The Cuban doctors have also assisted 38 births.”

11. Lies from FUXpropaganda?

The article says ...the US “was leading international relief effort in Haiti, Cuba was conspicuously absent from the roster of helping hands”...I imagine Cubans are steering clear of anything to do with the US effort. The Cubans know the USGov will sabotage any Cuban aid, so the Cubans are not part of the "roster of helping hands", but only in that narrow sense. Cuban assistance and solidarity with the Haitian people speaks for itself. F*ck FUXpropaganda.

The Christian Science Monitor, in a second article, quoted Laurence Korb, former assistant secretary of defense and now based at the Center for American Progress, as saying that the US, which is leading the relief efforts in Haiti, should “consider tapping the expertise of neighboring Cuba,” which he noted, “has some of the best doctors in the world–we should see about flying them in.”

As for the rest of the US media, they have simply ignored Cuba’s role and actions.
In fact, left unmentioned is the reality that Cuba already had over 400 doctors posted to Haiti to help with the day-to-day health needs of this poorest nation in the Americas, and that those doctors were the first to respond to the disaster, setting up a hospital right next to the main hospital in Port-au-Prince which collapsed in the earthquake.

So Rupert Murdoch's Faux Noise is lying about the Cuban role in Haiti disaster relief? So what else is new?

I wonder how many of the right-wingers currently shouting 'Amen!' while Faux Noise gratuitously bashes the Havana government over Cuba's alleged lack of action have heard about the New Testament Parable of the Widow's Mite or have wondered if that parable might also apply to the talking heads and senior editors of Faux Noise--or directly to them?
