It's Global Warming NOT Climate Change
Edited on Mon Jan-29-07 06:55 PM by StClone
You know why?

Because Frank Luntz came up with the term Climate Change to soft sell catastrophic man-made Global impact! Who is Frank Luntz? He's master propagandist that sold America on the Death Tax, Healthy Forest Initiative and other perverted linguistic gems.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Luntz

Not only is climate change promulgated by Sience now under the thumb of BushCo and his anti-Scientific hacks it's got some here reciting right along with the mush brained Freeptards. Use of the term will pretty much indicate Luntz's influence.

3. I prefer "climate crisis"...

6. While I firmly believe Frank Luntz is a lowlife pond scum sucking dirt bag
He is right on this in that climate change is more true to what is happening. It is not just an average degree or two warmer that is the problem, it is the drastic changes in climate systems where in the real threat lies. As to climate crisis? that may sound a little too ext ream to be accepted by the general public.

10. Cause and result
When a fire occurs, or a car accident, emphasis by news is to sell the collision or flames. It's the old if it bleeds it leads mindset. Attention and emotions captured, viewers gawk at the smashed cars and leaping flames. But to auto accident and fire investigators (analogous to Scientists) the interest is in the cause of the crash or fire.

Luntz has you focusing on result and softening it to Climate Change, sounds sort of natural and less threatening. Science does too, but there is more interest in the causes as THAT is the only way to analyze on how to control the temperature rise. Man is the cause and Conservatives don't want human activity to be seen as negative. Temperature rise may be seen as a result of human activity but it is also the root cause of Climate change.

13. Luntz magic
Luntz group tested the term "Climate Change". Found it was less threatening than Global Warming and went with it. Luntz reports back to lackey "Scientists" and the term is put into studies and where it is read by other Scientists. To follow precedent and avoid confusion they use follow the use of the term. That is why Suzuki may use both terms.

beings that is the effect of Global Warming and if it makes it more acceptable to the masses and they do something about it ...

Anyway I have actually come across people who can't understand that Global Warming is a bad thing. :silly: They will say "so what, I love in a cold place and will be happy for it to get a little warmer"! :banghead:

18.  I know most don't care
What it is called or it's effects until a drought, famine, heat waves, ice storms hits them hard. Then it'll be "Why wasn't anything done!" Remembering Katrina, no matter how long and hard the alarm, words are not heeded and action insufficient even after catastrophe in this modern world of apathy, ineptitude and ignorance.

Who knew Luntz had such influence over the UN and World Meteorological Organization back when he was just 26?

Yes they are :-). See below.

Luntz did not use the term Climate Change first. The fact Bush Administration wants it used speaks volumes.

20. Hum, well, the problem with the term "Global Warming" is that
people say, "Well, it's colder where I am, so where's this global warming you're talking about, yuk yuk!"

Maybe "Climate Crisis" is the best phrase to convey it.

22. What a crock of shit...
Luntz did not come up with the term Climate Change. He may have co-opted it, but it was in use by environmental scientists long before Luntz became a "master propagandist".

Here, from the journal Climatic Change Volume 1, Number 1, March 1977

Climate change and the world predicament: A case study for interdisciplinary research

Luntz was 15 at the time the article was published.

As I said, crock of shit.

Why don't you e-mail them.

And as for "Master Propagandist" he is exactly according to Lakoff. Luntz, if he didn't invent it, he certainly pushed its usage. I'll note the correction but not the goal of how or why it suits their goals.
