GOOOH (Get Out Of Our House) - new group, anyone know if it's legit?

1. Our local FAUX News had a report on this group last week

The local newswhores went out of their way to make sure that everyone knew that there were dems involved in this group...except for the fact that no one that was interviewed claimed to be a dem

2. Very Interesting idea.

I always thought we should have a true Represenative Democracy and randomly select (out of a hat or computer) our Congress critter. Everyone who is eligable should have their name thrown into a hat (or put on a computer) and their selection would be totally random (if computer scientests every really develop a truely random system). They would hold 2 terms and then go away and their name would no longer be placed on the random list.

That would ensure different people would always be coming and going with new ideas and different attitudes toward government.

I can dream.

4. Try this then

1) Pick a stranger at random. Anyone at all but it must be truly random.

2) Have a conversation with that person about issues that would be relevant to Congress. 10 minutes should do it.

3) Rethink your plan.

You can tell me all about what is wrong with our current Congressional representation, how having professional politicians hold those seats ensures a certain measure of corruption and wishy-washyness, and you'd get nothing but vigorous agreement from me. On the other hand a Congress made up of randomly selected citizens would be a nightmare. Such a group could consider something like HCR and instead of instituting needed reform award us an actual living breathing pony instead.

5. It would force us to ensure our populace was truly educated.

We couldn't let people slide by in high school, they might be your Congress critter one day. Sure some dumb people would get in but I bet a lot of good ideas would get in too. Besides you could make eligibility as tight as you want, no felons, no drug addicts or people with uncontrolled psychosis.

But so what if someone you think is stupid gets in. I bet they would learn real fast. And if they don't it is because our society allowed them to be ignorant.

They could never be as bad as some of the right wing idiots in office right now.

6. Is GOOOH Legit

I stumbled across this group several months ago, and yes they were on FAUX news, but the system that is setup seems to be pretty solid. The basic concept is for people to document how they would vote if they go to Washington and then interview others in their district to see who would be the best person. Certainly beats a random selection process. In really strong Democrat districts we can get someone who would represent the us well. Unfortunately in republican districts, a republican will most likely rise to the top. But that means that the incumbent republican politician will get defeated. This system only requires that you support term limits for the House of Representatives.

There are a lot of folks that have checked it out already. The hit counter on their site is well past 800,000. They keep saying they don't want or need money right now. I've joined, but I haven't given them a dime yet. Might be worth looking at.
