Support the amendment to protect parents' rights from gov't
To the Editor:
From the beginning of this nation, Americans have cherished their liberty and fought and died to protect their fundamental freedoms. Sadly, today many of those freedoms are being ignored, overruled or terminated with hardly a finger lifted to stop their violation. One of these endangered liberties is the right of fit parents to direct the upbringing and education of their children without interference and harassment. When the United States of America was founded, that right wasn't even questioned, and in the past, courts have consistently ruled that parents do have this fundamental right. Parental rights have recently come under attack more and more often in U.S. courts, and in international laws that are poised to dictate American policy and trump American laws already in place.
An amendment to the U.S. Constitution is the surest, and perhaps the only, way to protect the fundamental rights of parents from further deterioration and infringement. A parental rights amendment has been proposed, and it needs our support. Call your congressmen and ask them to
co-sponsor and support the Parental Rights Amendment (H.J. Resolution 42 in the House of Representatives and S.J. Resolution 16 in the Senate). Go to
http://parentalrights.org to find more information and sign the Parental Rights Amendment petition, declaring that you are backing the amendment and want Congress to do so as well.
An informational meeting will also be held at the Athens Public Library in the large meeting room at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2. Feel free to attend to learn more about the amendment and connect with other supporters. Don't wait until our freedoms are gone to begin fighting for them.
Support the Parental Rights Amendment… for the sake of parents and for the sake of children who need their parents' direction, instruction and care.
