First fire lookout job opening I've seen for 2010 (Idaho)

I promised I'd post these openings as I found out about them. I talked with Crystal about this lookout for one of my kin (who chickened out). She said that there are very few fires in a normal year. Good job for a grad student working on a dissertation or a writer, she said. Drive-in lookout, with a 4X4. Remote, yet close to town (Challis, ID?). I'm guessing that it is a mid-June to late-August gig.

Meanwhile, I'm already outfitting for my return to the Deschutes NF as a lookout for the 2010 season. Same place. Same dog. Different truck, I hope (I need a 4x4). Maybe a small travel trailer too.

Working on the book and movie list for 2010. I'm thinking, read the biggies: "War & Peace," "Ulysses," "The Dubliners," etc. Why not?

3. The Aubrey/Maturin series by O'Brian should keep you busy for a while.

I never thought I'd get into 18th-century British naval fiction, but they were addictive. I've read the entire series five times.

20 volumes in the series (and then that bastard O'Brian died...terribly inconsiderate).


I'll ship 'em to you if you ship them back at the end of the season :)
