1. Sure. I can hear the rethugs now; denying aid to our troops. And
do you know what is in this spending freeze? What's being frozen? I haven't heard any definitive plan yet.

2. What part of "military spending" are you talking about?
It always comes down to lower pay increases, cut funding for housing, increasing co-pay etc....that will directly impact my pocket for the sake of keeping multi million dollar contracts and weapons systems that will never see the light of day.

You know damn well that what should be cut won't be cut and what shouldn't be cut will be cut.

11. Weapons systems, Blackwater/mercenaries, wealth transfers to the Military-Industrial Complex mainly.

3. how about military "procurement"
lets start there. we have plenty of things to kill people. we should just stop right there.
soldier's pay and va treatment can do whatever they have to do. but until you can promise me there are no more brent wilkes/duke cunningham deals out there, go scratch.

5. That's exactly what I'm saying
They will cut or "freeze" manning before they will ever look at multi million dollar no bid contracts from campaign donors. Unfortunately, it is happening with this administration although we were promised it wouldn't. It's back ass wards.

9. After 8 years of rampant Bush Gang privatization and war profiteering, why not start there?
Edited on Tue Jan-26-10 09:40 AM by Overseas
If anyone can shuffle funds around and still remain strong, it is the US military that spends many times more than many other governments combined.

They are best positioned to freeze spending without cutting jobs.

10. Don't hold your breath
Too many Dems and Pukes are profiting from keeping those weapons contracts in their districts, states and getting all that campaign cash from contractors wanting the work.

Active duty will suffer before they ever consider cutting the contracts. They have cut manning in some places and it is screwing us bad.

13. Part of my wish for Hope and Change was a review of wasteful privatization of the military
but I am not holding my breath.

We have pretended for a year that the GOP is a party we can work with when they have proven the opposite time and again.

And we hear more bipartisan talk about the Hooverian framed spending freeze. So who's to say all the best features won't be tossed out one by one as they were with health care?

14. NO! We must fund the F-35
What if the Taliban or Al Qaeda suddenly present us with a strike force of fighter jets? Can we afford to test our air superiority without a fleet of F-35s at $239 million a pop? Won't you think of the children? Every penny spent on the military is absolutely vital, necessary and is the only thing keeping the terrorists from our shores! "For want of a nail . . ."

Besides, what can you really buy for a measly $239 million?
