3. But it is considered sacrilegious to even consider cutting defense spending.
Every single one of those weapons represents basic needs of food, medical care and shelter left unmet, minds and human potential wasted, energy independence delayed, continued dependence on foreign debt, etc.

4. "Every gun that is made..."
"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, signifies in the final sense a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed." -- Eisenhower

5. Please allow me to continue to lie to myself. I tell myself that all of my considerable tax dollars
go to social programs and none to the DOD.

7. As the wife of a retired sailor,
let me tell you, you don't even know the half of it. I saw a command going out and buying 1000 cases of copy paper because they had to use up ALL the funds in their budget for the fiscal year or they would get less funds the following year. The final week of the fiscal year was a Spending Spree! They had an entire office dedicated to holding this paper and there was no way they would ever go through it in a year.

8. Another example: I and 3 other soldiers were detailed to the firing
range for 8 days - our task? fire off 80 cases of 9mm pistol ammo. Each case has 1000 rounds. That is 80,000 rounds of ammo. We did not even have targets up. It was 3 guys loading 15 round magazines and one guy firing away as fast as possible.

The reason was if we did not use it by the end of the fiscal year we would not get as much ammo the next year. This was in 1992.

Yeah Team!
