Send California inmates to Mexico, says Schwarzenegger
http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20100126/ts_alt_afp/uspoliticscaliforniaprisons_20100126014519

SAN FRANCISCO (AFP) – Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger suggested California
could ease its crowded prison system by sending thousands of undocumented
inmates to specially built jails in Mexico.
Speaking to reporters at the Sacramento Press Club, Schwarzenegger said
California could ease its strained finances by a billion dollars if 20,000
illegal immigrants currently held in the state were housed across the border.
"I think that we can do so much better in the prison system alone if we can
go and take, inmates for instance, the 20,000 inmates that are illegal
immigrants that are here and get them to Mexico," Schwarzenegger said.

-Oy. These prisoners aren't FedEX packages...they have families
who live nearby or can travel the few hours it takes to visit them,
including their children, parents, spouses etc. Their lawyers are
within calling distance and they are protected by U.S. laws.
And he wants California to pay Mexico...in dollars or pesos?
We got I.O.Us right now. There are private prisons standing
virtually empty in California. Howabout releasing those non-violent
prisoners only there for drug use first?

Arnold, I knew you were a disaster previous to the recall election,
and I would personally pay for you to move back to Austria. Maybe that
would be the final answer.

1. Unrec for the suggestion that now even FELONS who are illegal aliens may not be deported
(because they have families and lawyers nearby, naturally!)

3. Ok, I concede your point
Felons' cases, for those who are illegally in this country, should
be reviewed.
Why weren't they deported at the time of their judgements?
What are the laws for that? Should U.S. laws continue to
cover them while they are sent to who knows where.
Is this just more of loosening of our laws to suit popular
opinions?

8. Stop mocking this brilliant plan.
This is a fine example of the innovative and "out of the box" thought processes that have set our governor apart from the pack. Here's an idea he has no chance in hell of developing further than a handful of press conferences. Since he terms out this year there's no way he can follow up on this idea. Best of all he gets the chattering classes a chattering. None of our local (SF bay area) news readers have even questioned the legality let alone feasibility of Arnold's plan. Plus he gets all kinds of face time with the so called news organizations.

Bravo Gropenfuerer it almost makes me regret never voting for you.
