Which Sci-fi film/series do you think the US is starting to resemble most?
Edited on Tue Jan-26-10 01:15 PM by YOY
Rollerball? Robocop? Idiocracy (still Sci-fi...but comedic)? William Gibson's cyberpunk novels? Minority Report? Handmaid's Tale?

Something tells me the job of Science Fiction to push the possible futures have become dark prophetizing...

Your thoughts?

1. I'm a little worried it's starting to resemble Soylent Green.
But you could make a case for RoboCop, Idiocracy or Handmaid's Tale.

I see a parrallel concept wise. The free-market fanatics create a monster that latter takes control of the very people that created it. Corporate Personhood made this possible.

7. Gibson-esque "Johnny Mnemonic"-ward feels about right.
Not so much with the cyborg parts, but the corporate super-comfort vs. the evolving "Low Techs"...

(With the overturn of campaign finance... based upon the "constitutional rights" of corporate persons... how long until corporations manage to overturn minimum wage laws, as a violation of their right to set their own rates of pay... and in order to "make the US competitive in a global workplace"?... Voila: Low Techs.)

Star Trek mirror universe -- it looked like the bulk of the budget in that universe went into the military, just like our country.

14. The PRISONER series with patrick mcgoohan.
we don't want to be unmutual.
who is the new number two?

be happy in the village, never mind that the ones in charge do not reveal themselves and will torture you into compliance.

as far as the sheer unreality of it all, I vote the prisoner as the best metaphor. Because even though its blatanly fascist, it pretends to be a peaceful village, if only we would all get along.
