The Home Computer Dilemma
I wake up in the morning and I'm stumbling around. Get the dogs fed and fixed with fresh water, and in the meantime my wife fires up the computer. I turn on C-Span and she sits down and starts reading. A few minutes later my wife fills me in on the headlines.

So I think about what she told me for a while and then I get to the computer and I come here and see what others think as well. Lots of times the things that stood out for her and seem important to me too haven't seen much discussion yet and sometimes the way I'm looking at what I've been told hasn't surfaced either.

So, like hundreds of others I post something.

Within minutes someone will call me liar, scumbag, Republican plant, and accuse me of making up shit. The best I can hope for is that someone will tell me my source is utter crap. Now, you tell me how I'm going to tell that to my wife.

Lighten up people.

7. stealthily infiltrate groups
In a 2008 academic paper, President Barack Obama's appointee to head the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs advocated "cognitive infiltration" of groups that advocate "conspiracy theories"

Cass Sunstein, a Harvard law professor, co-wrote an academic article entitled "Conspiracy Theories: Causes and Cures," in which he argued that the government should stealthily infiltrate groups that pose alternative theories on historical events via "chat rooms, online social networks, or even real-space groups and attempt to undermine" those groups

10. I'd be willing to bet
the idiot who immediately "unrecs" every post here is one of Karl Rove's flunkies, desperately doing his little part to save the GOP from complete oblivion.

12. A long time ago...
Du was oft quoted in the media.
There have been of late disrupters with the aim to make us seem too lunatic to use as any kind of measure. With our easy enrollment and our media exposure we are bound to attract people who have a bone to pick with any Democrat.

The hardest thing to do right now is be civil, but that is just what we need to be. For our reputation as a font of wisdom and our comfort as users of this site, we need to try to ignore the troublemakers in reply and report abuses to the mods instead of facing down someone you perceive as a threat. There have been way too many open battles the last few weeks. Threads are being highjacked by off topic disputes and interested partys don't wish to recommend such threads as good reading because suddenly it's not.

It' too bad that some innocents have been caught in the fray as you have experienced. I have witnessed others such as you getting torn a new one over a total misunderstanding.

I hope that the storm has passed now and things will get better soon so just hang in there and maybe, hopefully we will handle the next attack (there will always be another one) with more composure and zingier come-backs.
:hi:

15. Perhaps we could start a Political Re-education forum.
We can engage in self-criticism and denunciations, intertwined with passages from the Little Red Book.

16. You definitely need a thick skin to post online
I have a hide like a rhino and once in a while the mannerless clods still manage to get under it.

That's what ignore was invented for. I figure if they have any longevity I'll give them another chance in 5 years or so, after they've had a chance to grow up.

18. Du gets its share of impoliteness, but almost all other forums I've experienced
are or were orders of magnitude worse, from Usenet (yeah, I'm old) to the now defunct Yahoo News boards.
