All that you will hear will be tax cuts, tax cuts, and tax cuts, and the media won't ever do a single story on whether the huge tax cuts actually created any new jobs or not. Nor, will they do a story on the impact of tax cuts will have on the debt and deficit.
Folks, the deficit is a huge trap that the Dems keep falling in time after time. Republicans create deficits in order to build a logical argument against any new govt spending programs. Thus, the sanctimonious independent voter, who probably already has a job or a pension and great healthcare coverage, can pontificate in polling that they're "concerned" about the deficit. However, this same "Independent" voter never said a fucking thing when Bush and the Republicans blew threw the surplus like Bush blew threw that kilo of cocaine that Uncle Noriega gave him on his 25th birthday.
Here's the truth. We can always pay off the deficit or the debt whenever we want to, regardless of how high it gets. All we have to do is raise taxes a little and cut the military back from its cold war level of spending (BTW, the cold war has been over for 20 years now. We don't need air craft carriers to fight Al Qaeda.) In the 1990s, both Bush I and Clinton did just that. Bush I closed several military bases across the country and paired down defense spending. Clinton raise the top marginal rate to 40%, and the deficit turned into a surplus by the end of the decade.
So, to be in full panic because the deficit is huge is just another Republican trick to tamp down new government spending which is sorely needed now because the private economy has been CUTTING JOBS for TWO YEARS now. However, the media and the great-almighty-know-it-all-and-must-be-worshiped-at-all-times Independent voter, who has little or nothing to fear from the economy, must be placated with spending cuts.
If you want the media to shut up about the deficit, elect an Republican to the White House.
