2. Rachel on the story now
:Looking good!

One of the suspects in the phone scheme was picke dup in a car a few blocks away with a listening device. Based on previous informaiton, this would be Stan Dai.

Flanagan and Besel were the guys dressed as phone repairmen.
O'Keefe was in the ofice videotaping it with his cell phone.

That leaves Stan Dai as the bagman with the listneing device in a car a few blocks away.

This was a fairly advanced operation.

Higher ups had ot be involved.

we could be in for the most interesting 9 months of political trial in history.

37. My sense is that it won't. I just think these dumb fucks did it on their own.
The CIA would have been much slicker, don't you think? Not standing there taping it on a cell phone.

These guys wanted to show off with vid documentation. The CIA wouldn't have wanted to have that evidence.

IMO, anyway.

I actually would prefer it if it's just these goofballs - can't blame it all on the big bad CIA taking advantage of these young idealistic patriots.

I'm still wondering -- why Landrieu?

16. damnit stan!
way to go, perpetuating the asian techno-geek stereotype. sitting in the support truck with all the gizmos...
speaking as an asian computer scientist myself ;-).

of course, he probably realized that even if they succeeded and the movie was made about their "daring" exploits, they would have relegated his character to supporting status anyways:

:P

28. idiot is right
It would be amusing to know the self-deluded thought-processes that led up to this little jaunt. Anyone who's worked with the federal government knows you don't kid around with security matters, this Stan guy especially. Either they were acting alone, in which case they were incredibly stupid, or they were acting on behalf of another organization, in which case they were also stupid for being the fall-guys. Of course, this assumes they're going to treat them according to the same rules we mortals in the general public are treated, which remains to be seen.

47. The video was probably for whoever is funding them.
And for Show and Tell on how to bring down a 'Liberal' senator (I know, Landrieu is far from liberal, but to them she is 'far left') at his Alma Mater, the Morton Blackwell School of 'Journalism' known as The Leadership Institute. Other well known graduates from that 'school' (I think their journalism course is about three days) are Karl Rove, Jeff Gannon and others.

They idolize Paul Weyrich, the man who once said that it was 'not in our interests' to have ordinary people voting.

9. This case will become a bar exam test question
"Here are the facts - Blah blah blah - What federal cahrges can be brought against these men?"

Fucking dozens of charges by my count so far.

We could be talking about as many as 150 years of time in prison based upon what we know right now.

If there are others involved, they WILL BE REVEALED because assholes in their mid-twenties will not spend the rest of their lives in prison to protect ANYBODY!

But note: co-conspirator, Robert Flanagan's father, William Flanagan, is acting head of the U.S. Attorney's Office in Shreveport. This is going to be interesting.

24. I just watched Return of the Pink Panther again last night.
That has the classic scene where Clouseau, disguised as the telephone repairman, attempts to bug the residence of "Sir Charles Phantom, the notorious Litton"! The whole time Sir Charles' wife and servant have him pegged. This deal had to be a lot like that. Wish we had video!

Who are we kidding, cheney made it a-ok to bug and it seems unlikely he failed to take advantage of the advantages it would give in ramming the shit legislation his corporate cronies got through Congress.

Blackmail is an ugly word, but it works SO well.
