Last Throes indicator?

Morning LBN reading includes - two items on Rice and Russia. Putin threatening to pull out of a weapons treaty with NATO over US plans to put "missile defense shields" in former Soviet Iron Curtain states and Rice declaring that Russian worries were ludicrous.

Then there was the item about the US giving the Indian Navy an advanced weapon defense system (that could be linked to their nuke technology).

My cynical self thought: Are they trying to spike up two arms races?

My cynical self then thought: Since there appears to be no policy reason for these moves - is this just for profits for the Military Industrial Complex (MCI) {also known as: Bush Cronies}

My jaded bush-watching cynical self then thought: Is this it? Is this the signal that bushco recognizes that the US military involvement in Iraq is "in its last throes" and trying to find new ways to keep feeding the MIC beast?

Just thought I would share my cynical read of some of this mornings news.

And back to the stories - why in the world are we pursuing putting a weapons system that doesn't work, and that we can't afford - into Europe? And why in the world are we getting involved in the India - Pakistan nuke race - when bushco claims to need/work with Mushareff per the war in Afghanistan and "pursuit" of OBL and al qeada?

Seriously - what they heck are they up to?

1. Musharef is to be trusted only as far as he can be thrown. He IS a dictator, after all.

His senior military leadership is peppered with Taliban loving fundies, some of whom have been placed under house arrest. It wouldn't surprise anyone if, notwithstanding all the dough the US funnels into Pakistan, that there aren't very senior military personnel who not only know where Bin Ladin is (if he still lives) but might tip him off if there's a problem. Thus, India--gotta play both ends against the middle.

Russia is Iran's neighbor. They haven't been feeling our Middle Eastern love lately, and Pootie Poot's soul has mirrored glass over it, so BushCo can't look in it anymore. Is that shield to prevent Russia from helping their own pals, who might not be ours? Inquring minds want to know...doncha know...
