15. Production issues and content aside, I thought it was a brilliant concept.

One of the classic objectives of marketing (besides gaining new customers) is to placate your existing ones. That's why advertising the merits of, say, a new car, is just as important to someone who has just purchased one to someone who is planning to purchase one.

The Republicans did just that last night -- they countered with their own staged SOTU address not just to rebut the President but to placate and rally their own troops. So what if it was staged and horribly produced? Those stupid enough to be Republicans wouldn't know any better in the first place.
