Nazis cleaning up in Colorado

The National Socialist Movement, who also calls itself America's Nazi Party, applied to participate in the Colorado Department of Transportation's Adopt-A-Highway program.

"We're here. We're active. We're doing good things," Lochbuie resident Neal Land, a spokesman for the group, told CBS4's Howard Nathan.

The white supremacist group will be responsible for picking up trash along a 1 mile stretch of the highway south of Bromley Lane in Brighton. A sign is already up in the area with the group's name on it.

Elmwood Baptist Church is located along that stretch of roadway and has its own section of the highway that's adopted right next to the supremacists. The church community says the racist group's message being so close by is unfortunate....

It immediately became full of discarded furniture, drums of used motor oil, and other stuff. I think awarding the Nazis a stretch of highway should be averted on the basis that it will result in people deliberately dumping there.

3. When I lived in Maryland a local Klan group wanted to participate in the

same kind of program along a stretch of highway there...It was ruled that they couldn't be barred from participating in it, so the county terminated the program.

It's legal to be a Nazi in the U.S., and it would be unconstitutional to ban them from an activity that other groups participate in, simply because we think they're a bunch of racist losers. Yes, this has been court tested.

If they'd refused the application, the Nazi bastards could have sued them.

16. In Missouri, when Nazis wanted to adopt a section of highway, the state renamed that section after a

prominent and well-loved rabbi. Several years ago, the Klan wanted to adopt a section and the state renamed that section after Rosa Parks. I think that's the best way to handle such things.
