2. It should help tourism in Florida ...

There are a lot of attractions in both the Tampa Bay area and Orlando. Plus, the idea of traveling on a high speed rail system will bring a lot of people to the Sunshine State.

4. Yes but I hope it does more than just help tourism..

I hope it makes it possible for people to find jobs in other cities without having to drive 2 or 3 hours each way every day. I just did that drive from Orlando to St. Petersburg for 6 weeks and I'm looking at doing a similar drive up to Jacksonville for a new job if I get it. It would help with the job problem and would also encourage employers to move TO the state. We need a lot more rail in Florida including shorter range daily commuter rail for metro areas like Orlando, Tampa, etc. South Florida has tri rail and Miami has an elevated rail system but they are very limited in their scope. We need a lot more rail to make public transit practical here.

This will also spur job creation, which Florida needs badly after the real estate collapse. It's a step toward infrastructure repair--which is desperately needed, countrywide, we are crumbling--and also toward reducing dependence on cars. All around a good, forward-thinking move. Putting it in Florida, on a popular tourist route, means lots of people with discretionary income will be riding it and it is likely at least to break even as an investment, which ought to undercut Republican objections about spending money. (It will show itself to be an investment and not an expense, so the next stage of it will meet less opposition.)

where most of the drivers can't do over 25 MPH with their left turn signals on.

Should provide plenty of jobs when you have to repair it every 3-4 years because a hurricane fucks it up...
