I'm going to go out on a limb and claim that I'm the only DUer that has spent that much time with Scott Brown.

I have been posting on DU for more than 5 years. I worked hard for Coakley because I'm a union guy and a good Democrat. I love President Obama and I didn't want to give the Republicans a 41st vote.

Having said all that, you may be pleasantly surprised by US Senator Scott Brown.

I'm the President of a small union (200 workers) at a Horse Track in Boston.

On January 2, 2007 I was fighting the closing of the facility because of the expiration of the simulcast law (off track betting during the non-live season). All my members were out of work for 3 days. The culprit was a crooked House Speaker, Sal Di Masi (D-North End). Sal has since been indicted.

Scott Brown has another horse track in his district (Plainridge trotters). For 4 hours we worked together to get this bill passed. He really was a charming and down to earth guy. He was interested, listened and worked to get this thing done. Now, I'll admit that he was fighting for his district, but he did fight for those workers and that business. In short, he did his job well.

I also serve on the Greater Boston Labor Council's Committee on Political Education. Scott Brown received an 81% AFL-CIO voting record in the Massachusetts State House and qualified for our endorsement in his State Senate Re-Election last year.

Again. You just may be pleasantly surprised. At least, I hope so.

3. I've said it a million times before, but I'll say it once again.
Scott Brown believes global warming is a myth crafted by liberals to scare people.

Scott Brown is fiercely against amnesty for illegals, trying terrorists in civilian courts because OH NO GASP THE WILL OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE IS FRAGILE LIKE THE SWEETEST ROSE.

Scott Brown was endorsed by the Tea Parties, the NRLC, and every other wingnut PAC and organization known to man. Sarah Palin even came to Holyoke to campaign for him.

Scott Brown may surprise us, but it will be because he'll end up in the mold of Jim DeMint rather than Olympia Snowe. He's a snake in the grass and we'd do well not to trust him.

4. I don't doubt that, by national Republican standards, he's a flaming liberal...
...but as the "new kid" in the Republican conference, I suspect he'll be under a lot of pressure to play along with the leadership.

5. As long as he doesn't get religion like so many others have
when they get to the Senate, we might be pleasantly surprised.

I voted for Ed Brooke once, he was more liberal than his Democratic opponent. Unfortunately, the next time he ran against Tsongas, and there was no contest.

After 1980, there was no way I could vote for any Republican. Reagan had handed the party over to the religiously insane and I knew exactly what was going to happen to them.

6. Ahh, but the Republican Party Mob Bosses will take care of that.....
..... He'll fall in line, or some unfortunate pictures of him will turn up somewhere. We all know what happens to those who don't tow the party line.

7. I agree...he's an Arlen Spector type
Doesn't help with the lock-step big votes, but will swim with Dems on the smaller real policy stuff.

Not well, I'd guess.

This could be a short honeymoon.

11. There is one thing all Senators have in common...
all elected officials for that matter. They share in inherent desire to keep their jobs. The far-right-teabagger bullshit will not fly in Massachusetts. Give it six months and the far righties will be throughly pissed off.

13. Did he have his clothes on?

And, by the way, I'll NEVER be "pleasantly" surprised by a Republican.

Fuck him and everything he stands for. He bought into his party's bullshit. Then he can live with his party's bullshit.

14. Scott Brown thnks waterboarding isn't torture and that America doesn't torture.
He may like helping out a local business and their employees, as most any senator would, especially if it meant 200 votes, but that issue wasn't a party vote in an stretch of the imagination. There were Massachusetts democrats on both sides of that issue for sure, and on the dog racing issue. I have every reason to believe Massachusett voters, independents and democrats, will work hard to get that guy out of office as soon as possible. "The naked Torturere goes to Washington for Massachusetts"???not for long.
