Blank and blank
Edited on Fri Jan-29-10 01:03 AM by Randall Flagg
These are the new "conservative" villains.

Watching Keith Olbermann earlier tonight and hearing his compilation of the word "Arrogant" being parried about by conservative spokespeople, I had to go back in my own history and remember the way it was so many years ago.

I moved to the south in the 60's as a child of two liberal parents. We were dumbfounded by the white and black drinking fountains and horrified by what was happening in Selma and Birmingham in the new state we had moved to. These things helped turn me into a "long haired hippy type" who protested the Viet Nam war and hold signs saying "Dump Dick" no less than twenty feet away from the man himself. There were more than just a few of us down here and we did make quite a bit of noise. I like to think that our efforts helped (if only a little) in the changes that occurred.

Civil Rights laws were enacted, the war ended to the chagrin of the right. My mother was relieved she didn't have to send me to Canada.

We thought we had jumped a hurdle.

We thought we had nudged the status quo and that racism was finally a dying thing.

Wow. Were we wrong.

The comments about our President's speech last night were filled with veiled racism. Our President's efforts to ease the burden on the LBGT community in the armed forces was roundly shunned by the RW. The South (in its definition of bigotry and racism which transcends any state border) has risen again.

Pick any right wing radio show and listen. They preach hate of the non-white. A Century ago, these were the people yelling about the Irish, the Jews and women. They didn't have to worry about the backs or the LGBT because at that time their numbers were sufficient to either beat them into silence or just flat out kill them.

I guess where this ramble is heading is that I am sad. Very sad that after all we as a Nation have gone through that there is still a volume of populace that keep the sons of bitches like Boenher et. al. in office and scum like Limbaugh on the airwaves.

Fifty years ago it was N****rs and Q****s. Here in the next Century we have progressed to adding Hispanics and anyone from the ME.

I think we're getting fucking worse as a society.

Sorry for the words, but I felt they were necessary. If you would like I will edit if it is offensive to others in the context it was meant.

22. You realise that if you had read past the title that the OP was not
"some FUCKING STOOPID RACIST INSENSITIVE DOGSHIT LIKE THAT???"

It was, in pretty simple English, a mini-rant on stupid, racist "dogshit."

And while Forrest was simple he had wisdom.

"It happens."

25. I have no idea how it was meant,
but in my limited experience here, "enjoy your stay" usually is meant as sarcasm.. in other words enjoy your stay because your going to be TS'd soon. But.. who knows, maybe the thought was genuine!

As already stated, Welcome!

27. MOSTLY -
Some folks who want to test the limits here at DU hit the words you first posted in your title on their way to a concrete chicklet. (tombstone)

Since you simply reprinted an article and didn't opine in your main text, there's no way to tell if you're on the up and up, or whether you'll be pushing daisies and playing the harp.

NONE of what I just wrote is designed to be prejudicial, nor should it be construed as a criticism of you, but it IS a pattern I have seen a couple hundred times in my short stay here.

Since I wrote what I did, you corrected the words that are simply not tolerated here at DU, and that speaks volumes in your favor - most folks who don't care to stay would refuse to accept the suggestions you most plainly accepted.

SO: Enjoy your stay, whether it be for 10 more posts or 10,000. Hopefully you can enjoy a long and productive relationship with tons of like minded Democrats, and have a few good adversaries to keep the blood flowing.

And you can ignore me if you'd like, many do, and I don't mind.

Someone has to be the class clown. Might as well be me.

:hi:

29. I won't ignore you. Differing opinions and ideas are what make this board
so interesting to me and I probably agree with 80% of the feelings and opinions here.

BUT!!! I did not reprint an article, I just wrote what I felt after one of Keith O's worst persons in the world pieces. If I cut and paste, I will give a link. :)

8. I'm sorry if you don't like me but my post was about how people are still
discriminating against others who aren't straight WASPS.

I used the words I used because they are used by those who want to keep us out of the mainstream.

2. You may want to edit that title
Those words are highly offensive to many people. Use quotes, at least.

3. edit it.
Edited on Fri Jan-29-10 12:59 AM by Matariki
You aren't directly quoting anyone, so that's just coming out of your own brain. Those words aren't necessary to get your greater point across. It comes off as an excuse to use hurtful words and offend people for it's own sake.

5. Avoid deletion. Edit your post. Use ***s, as in MotherF***er.
These words are painful to see, to read, an your post will be locked and possibly deleted.

To say nothing of the replies you'll get.
