Question about Ohio ( Drug Tests, Civil Liberties )

A friend of mine ( no not me lol ) Recently visited her Psych in Ohio. The psych told her that they would be performing random drug tests on patients and if they fail the drug test they would be removed from medication prescribed there.

My friend is disabled from depression, anxiety, and Bi polar disorder, Very severe all of them. She smokes marijuana to help cope with the emotional suffering and pain she has from her ailments.

My question is. Is it illegal, in Ohio, for a doctor/psych to random drug test with the threat of taking away much needed medication, without any laws saying so.

Yes,doctors can do that. It's more typically done with pain patients receiving opiates than with psych patients. In that case, doctors are trying to protect themselves from drug abusers posing as pain patients.

I don't know what the doctor's reasoning would be with a psych patient.

I would suggest that your friend just tell the doctor she is using marijuana for relief. If he is a doctor worthy of the name, he will not harm her by refusing to provide her with other meds.

But first, I would suggest going to another doctor--or at least having a back-up--to ensure that her prescriptions continue.
