President Obama needs two things to fix America

A box of cigars and a baseball bat.

The box of cigars is to create the classic smoke-filled room politicians used to meet in to develop legislation. You put all the Democrats in this room. You issue each of them a cigar, light up and start arguing. Don't let them leave until they've got ONE bill they can get through both houses of Congress without conferences or anything else.

The baseball bat is to keep the Republicans out of the room. Instead of ruining our bills by crafting them to suit the tastes of Republicans who will vote NAY in a bloc no matter how GOP-esque we make them, we keep those assholes away from the legislative process. And we start playing serious hardball with them:

"if you want us to fund paving the gravel road in front of City Hall in your capitol city, vote YEA on this bill."
'But the street in front of City Hall in that community is paved!'
"According to this bill, we've allotted $1.25 million to remove all paving materials from that section of road and installing 100 cubic yards of gravel in its place. Pledging us a 'yea' will get that language removed."
