O'Keefe's statement - what a fool
http://politics.theatlantic.com/2010/01/james_okeefes_statement.php
<snip>
The government has now confirmed what has always been clear: No one tried to wiretap or bug Senator Landrieu's office. Nor did we try to cut or shut down her phone lines. Reports to this effect over the past 48 hours are inaccurate and false.

As an investigative journalist, my goal is to expose corruption and lack of concern for citizens by government and other institutions, as I did last year when our investigations revealed the massive corruption and fraud perpetrated by ACORN. For decades, investigative journalists have used a variety of tactics to try to dig out and reveal the truth.

Hey fools - you broke into an Federal office and that alone is a crime.
I hope they send your sorry ass to prison.

5. in the tiny minds of conservatives, it is beyond massive
last night i posted on FB that the DoD should get a spending freeze, too, and a conservative "friend" said that he'd discuss it after ACORN was brought to heel.

idiot.

2. One thing I've not seen mentioned
If these guys were seriously there just to do a legit news story, and didn't think they were doing anything wrong, then why not come clean when asked for their credentials? I mean, at that time, if they were truly in the right, they'd have to know there was no way their "investigation" was going any further. They'd have come out and said "OK, we're actually doing some investigative journalism . . ."

Saying "I left my credentials in the truck" stinks of the type of lie that's intended to get one out of harm's way when one knows one is doing something illegal. That might be used by an investigative journalist who infiltrated an African poaching ring genuinely in fear for his life, but if this "investigative journalism" thing is true, they had nothing to fear from the truth.

These guys are clearly dirty. Maybe they had no intent to bug the phones right there. Maybe they were scoping it out for doing that later. I sure hope investigators are turning over these guys' residences and checking phone records and all that.

4. Maybe someone higher up in the chain gang just wanted to get rid of these idiots
so sent them on a wild goose chase going nowhere but out of "investigative journalism" forever. Who needs incompetent undercover ops? Nobody, that's who. And James had more than proved his incompetence before he ever put on that costume hard hat and vest.

who knows--or cares.
