Was today a turning point for Obama? Or will the Repubs blow it off?
Are there ANY Republicans who have enough of a conscience to say, "Hey, he made a lot of sense today. Let's start working on getting some stuff done" - ?

What do y'all think?

1. I think politics has become a football game. You only cheer your own side.
This is particularly true of Republicans.

2. They would get all spankied by the party bosses if they agreed with Obama
Newt taught them to create friction, stall, and resist any good ideas unless it comes from a puke.

3. He did it simply because he needs their votes. Think they will do that?

4. The 'pubs will definitely blow it off, but...

a lot of other people won't. They'll still be obstructionist assholes, but a lot more people will have their eyes opened to that fact after watching this. I think all Americans should be required to view what went down this morning. It was very...educational, LOL.

6. They'll blow it off,
but it's good for our side any time they're made to look like idiots in public.

7. The most sense he made to them was his observation that they've backed themselves into a corner.
They're pretty much committed to obstructionism, now.

Obama certainly shored things up with his base, though!

8. Forget them, will it be a turning point for US?
All the petty hating coming from our side towards the President needs to stop. We need to unify and get things done, with or without the repugs.

9. I think both. Obama is gaining support and popularity from the middle, even
former republicans, and many moderate left Democrats, even some progressives are giving him more chances. The GOP will continue on their course, and I really believe they will lose in the election this fall....they wou't believe it till it happens and won't understand it even after.

They are very self destructive, not very smart.

10. They will blow it off. They are only interested in their party
"winning." The best interests of our country take second seat to their party and they will tell/vote anything Obama "NO!" every time, regardless of what it is.

14. Both. It was a turning point for President Obama.
President Obama seems to have finally put his foot down. That's good to see.

But the Republicans will still blow it off though. I know how they operate. They are like that. They do not listen or reason or compromise at all. Repugs are the most stubborn, obnoxious, hard headed bunch of idiots in the country.

I'm hoping President Obama learns soon that his best bet is to steamroll over their asses and get shit done without them. He doesn't want to do that, I know, but he needs to.

15. Just listened to it and....
...he put the ball in their courts and said, ok, what are you going to do?

He very tactfully pointed out that they painted themselves into a corner and gave them a way out. If they don't take it, there going to go down in flames.

Maybe that's why the Tea Party Convention is falling apart and Palin is saying they should "merge". Someone must have brought out the ghost of Ross Perot and told them, this will happen again if you don't get your act together.

Obama said here's the reigns now do something, because if you don't everyone is going to know your full of it.

16. If they had any kind of a conscience, they wouldn't still be Republicans.
And if they try to "blow it off," that in itself is PROOF that today was a turning point!

But seriously, folks, I think we ARE looking at the premiere of Obama 2.0: His Presidency REALLY Begins.

17. It was a sorry day for Obama and the Dems
Edited on Fri Jan-29-10 07:23 PM by depakid
With Obama whinging, pleading backpedaling and exclaiming "Join me" "I'm not an ideologue. I'm not!"

Republicans are just laughing at him, as they prepare to royally thump the Dems in the midterms.

The country needed a Churchill; what it got was a Chamberlain.

Not to denigrate Chamberlain, in different times, he would have made an outstanding Prime Minister.
